Why did my boyfriend receive a calling to teach primary when he smokes, gambles, and is on probation
He recently got into trouble with drugs, he has had a problem with them his whole life. His family is very active in the church, all 7 siblings and parents. He attends church to keep the peace and his parents from lecturing him. He is 42 years old and living with them because of the trouble he got himself into. He accepted a calling to teach primary. He smokes, gambles, swears, looks at porn and recenlty taught primary after being out all night and getting high. Why would he receive this calling to teach small children?
Shouldn't you be trying to stop him or alert the human resource that he doesn't qualify. Remember he might hs passed the necessary course and with a back ground checck wasn't caught.
God always judges the heart!!!! Read some of the preachers and bishops bio on the web,s. We are all sinners ( one way or the other ) even if some lie to protect. None of us are even close to God or Jesus, that is why they are at the same place and we are not with them.
There is no question in my mind that those who issued the invitation to your boyfriend to teach the children in Primary have no idea whatsoever about the problems he is having. If they did, the invitation would never have been extended.
In this dispensation of grace oftentimes sin is denounced as unimportant because it is assumed the person is always trying to do their best. "doing their best" is the key phrase there. Some are not trying at all. I think its definitely wrong to let people with actively sinful, unrepentant lives have any ministry in the church of god at any level.
There should always be a time of probation to prove the disciples faithfulness in any ministry. Unfortunately, influencial families have, well, influence and thats wrong on any level.
Do what you think is best, even if you have to protest.
God often calls on sinners to lead. Moses had a temper. Noah was a drunkard. Jonah was a coward. David was lustful. Even the Prophet Joseph Smith had faults.
Who better to reach a faulty child of God than a repentant child of God.
His bishop might have also felt that a calling would make him repent and appreciate the gospel.
Also, remember that the bishop can receive revelation for the ward. Your boyfriend may have been already meant to work with children in this life.
Also, by boyfriend I hope that you are living the law of Chastity.
If so and so can become the president of US, what is unbelievable?
did you know that Joseph Smith drank and smoked.
“Before the jailor came in, his boy brought in some water, and said the guard wanted some wine. Joseph [Smith] gave Dr. Richards two dollars to give the guard; but the guard said one was enough, and would take no more.
“The guard immediately sent for a bottle of wine, pipes, and two small papers of tobacco; and one of the guards brought them into the jail soon after the jailor went out. Dr. Richards uncorked the bottle, and presented a glass to Joseph, who tasted, as brother and the Doctor, and the bottle was then given to the guard, who turned to go out.”
(History of the Church, Vol. 6, page 616)
If you have concerns about this calling, I would advise you to make an appointment with your boyfriend's bishop and discuss your concerns with him. The bishop may not be aware of the issues and you could help him in this matter. You are right, someone who is doing porn and things like that should not be teaching small children. Please take your concerns to the bishop!

I used to hear some people complaining about their pastors in terms of shepherding their flocks. How can we help our pastors developing their calling and ministry to be more fruitful ?

The Christian Bible says A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet ( 1 Tim 2:11.12)Why do fundamentalist christians who believe that the bible is the word of God never teach what the bible says...
