Well, that is something you must decide for yourself. Everyone is supposed to have a special gift and corresponding purpose. The key is FINDING IT. Once you do, things get easier for the "inner you"......even if you experience much tribulation as a result. You will be happy in knowing that you followed your INNER-SPIRIT and did the best you could to see to the completion of your inner-purpose. Whether there is or isn't an afterlife, your work towards this purpose will survive your physical non-existence and like waves oscillating will forever reverberate. The more you accomplish, the more "Transactional Worth" you will have when life passes to death.
Life is a gift from God and it is up to us to find our purpose.
We live because before we realize what life is-we have already started living-its not on our hands.
Some people live for money, some people live for then whom he love, some people live for their country, some people live for power, some people live for drugs even! Its your choice for what you will live.
We've all been fortunate enough to have been given our lives through our parents, who, to show their love for one another began a family. They gave us the start of life, how we now live our lives is up to the individual. Most of us will simply live our lives as it comes, hopefully as enjoyable as is possible. Some of us will endevour to change things (hopefully for the better), these people may study politics or medicine, and at some point in their life may make some miraculous breakthrough that could change all our lives in the future.
The answer to "Why do we live?", I would answer "To Survive".
There is no 'why' to any of it. If you want your life to have meaning then give it some - make an impression, leave a mark.
For us the most important question is 'how'. When we understand how something works (eg gravitation, nuclear fission/fusion etc) we can exploit that knowledge to manipulate our environment. This puts us in a better position to survive a random event - such as Planet Earth being hit by an asteroid - for which there is, equally, no rhyme or reason.
I am, of course, talking of an 'ideal world' situation here.
I think there's no universal answer to the question 'why WE live'. But there is an answer to 'why I live'. Everyone of us must define our own purpose of life. Don't bother asking someone else to define your purpose of life, for it's only you who can do this.
we live because we were born. what we live for depends on each person. no one lives for any particular purpose but rather what they chose.
We should all live unto Life,
because that is the original intent and purpose of us all.
But there are those who will live unto life by knowledge of Truth.
and others will do so false or ignorantly.
