Probably because it's healthy for us. It allows up to release stress, calm a situation down, and feel better.

When things go in our direction, anything that pleases us produces in sense a form of laughter, may that be a smirk, smile or actual laughing.

Laughter comes from humour, which varies from person to person.

We laugh also as a result of our emotional nature. We humans are not logical beings like robots etc. We are emotional and rational being and laughter is one of the ways we express ourselves to one another.

We laugh when we are happy, comfortable, satisfied, fulfilled and also when we want to reduce certain hormones and chemical imbalances within us.

Though it's a completely unfunny answer, I've always thought that we laugh when we're very close to a truth about ourselves.
