Why is it ok to curse God on television?
On 2 Broke Girls, one made a statement, "If ____________ then God is a Bitc?" It was totally out of left field and had nothing to do with the discussion. This was supposed to be funny. How often do we hear people in action movies say "Jesus f*ckin Christ?" If they don't believe in God, why talk about Him. If they do, why say these things?
To those who don't believe in God, using him as an insult or insulting him directly would be the same as using Santa Claus or some other fairy tail creature in the same context. Justification for such usage is on a personal bases and therefor, free to anyone.
I never hear them curse Budha or Mohammed or Allah.
To curse Buddha would be silly as Buddha symbolizes a group of people, not a single person. Buddhas also symbolize peace, nonviolence, and tranquility. I cannot say people don't, but I would find it odd that people would.
icy, Buddhists follow the teachings of Buddha. http://dianetrotter.hubpages.com/questi … n#rc_69488
Christians follow Christ - Prince of peace, Love, Good Shepherd same reasoning should apply
I do not deny Christianity is a religion of peace, but how many millions of have been killed in the name of Christianity? How many in the name of Buddhism? Neither is right or wrong, but the past connect be forgotten.
Buddha isn't a deity and, therefore, they don't worship him. The reason no one curses other deities is because the christian god is the most well known in the U.S., so those curses are ingrained in our society.
School policy prohibits curding in school; however, when school functions play rap/hip hop cursing is included. On television cursing is included. Kids are allowed to curse in certain circumstances. We are sending mixed signals tot he kids.
This drives me crazy. They will bleep other words such as s^*t, but let the word that curses God to be said. There is no place in anyone's mouth for this word. It should not even exist. If someone feels the need to curse, please leave my God's name out of your mouth.
It's an old expression that doesn't mean anything. First of all, I'm an adult and I don't see anything wrong with swearing. I find that people who never swear are usually hyporcrits in some other aspect of their lives. I say "god bless you" to people all the time and I'm an atheist. I say it because it is a polite thing to say. Personally, I think it's ok to curse god on tv, because he doesn't exist. But on a public note, I do think that capitalism/industry has reached a point where it is having to choose between god and science, which in the last 20 years have become two phenomena that can no longer be reconciled. When capitalism decides to promote science and reason and ignore religion and superstition, then we see television and all media subliminally undermining religion through subtle nuances like those you've just mentioned.
I agree that these are expressions. The shows aren't making a religious statement, these are just words in American vocabulary. Like saying something is divine or a miracle.
Only people who still believe in the fairy tales of religion are offended by the use of the word God in this way. However, people who are no longer controlled by their indoctrination can see the humor in this. I do agree that sometimes there is too much gratuitous swearing on TV, and other media.
A lot of the words used are simply figures of speech. Like the Jesus F Christ for example, someone who simply uses a lot of profanity simply place the words in the middle of anything just for dramatic effect.

Two relatively similar people are presented with the Bible and the message of Christianity. Person one takes to it eagerly. Person two pushes it as far away as it will go. What is the difference between these two people? Lets add that the two people have identical upbringings, are the same sex,...

Atheism only means the lack of a belief in God. Why is it so hard for Christians to realize that we dismiss their religion for the same reasons that they dismiss all other religions? It doesn't make us horrible people, immoral, or mean that we are going to hell. It just means that we think the...

Where does someone like me, with psychic ability, fit into Christianity? Do you think I am evil?I believe in God & Jesus & God's Holy Spirit. But I was born psychic. I see dead people and I talk to dead people. It is a God-given ability. I help people. Yet I cannot label myself as...
