What should the Catholic church do solve problems that it is facing?
Clergy abuse, decline of following and its stance to the social issues which are controversial i.e., same sex marriage etc., divorce, homosexuality
First and foremost they need to bring themselves into the 21's century. It is time to recognize that all their talk about sins, especially when it comes to homosexuality, is simply a lot of bunk based on the ignorance of the ancient world.
Secondly they need to start prosecuting the pedophiles within their cult instead of trying to sweep them under the rug and trying to hide it from the public.
Keeping hatred alive and promoting intolerance is certainly not one of their virtues, especially when spouting their beliefs as "teachings of God".
Those bigoted cults know little, or nothing, of what God wants, thinks, or desires. These are human traits that man tries to personify God as. If their god is so all powerful, it would not have made man with frailties, and then have the religions make excuses for these shortcomings by saying God is "testing" people.
Religions are certainly not in the business of saving souls. They are simply stuck in the business of control over their parishioners' lives (and their pocketbooks).
The Catholic Church has been corrupt for centuries. It has been dealing with losing followers for centuries, and it has been dealing with constantly being incorrect in its standings for centuries (like you know, when the Church firmly believed the Earth was the center of the universe and spoke AGAINST the idea that the sun was the center). Ever since the Church decided to be a political power all those centuries ago, they've never been able to right themselves. If the Catholic Church wants to correct itself, it needs to break political ties completely, stop worrying about making money, and focus solely on being a church and on Christianity. But therein lies the problem - the Catholic Church has been designed for power, control, and monetary gain for hundreds of years and that's a pretty hard habit to break.
