How do you see Tattoo's, is it Biblical correct or incorrect?
I don't have any tattoo's but I like a lot many that I have seen. I think the only reference to them in the Bible are in the Old Testament and they are referred to tribal markings are something, but not mentioned as far as I can see in the New Testament. I am a Christian and I follow NT law. So I believe Tattoos would be fine.
I agree with Lois, I am a christian as well the only scripture that speaks of
tatoos is in the old testament. The verse speaks of not marking the body. I really think people have the wrong understandng about tatoos. Personaly I do not see anythink wrong with a person having a tatoo, and look forward to the day when I am brave enough to get one myself. I think people should not judge a person if they do have a tatoo. My final answer I have not found a scripture that speaks against tatoos, and there is no New Testament scripture at all which speaks of it.
Tattoos are amoral. But, I like the body God gave me. I think he is the master designer and his creation (as marred and flawed by the fall that it may be) is perfect. That goes for all those who may read this. God made each one as a masterpiece and his handiwork doesn't need any improvement. In fact it is our eyes and our perceptions of what looks good and what doesn't look good that are in desperate need of alteration. God is a Picasso not a Rembrandt. Still, each one is free to do with the outward appearance of their body as they see fit.
President Clinton tells a story about his junior high science teacher. The man was rather homely in apperance. And yet, he gave President Clinton and his classmates some sound advice that President Clinton has not forgotten to this day. This not so good looking science teacher share with them that every morning when he looked in the mirror he would say to himself John you are one handsome devil. He said that because he wanted them to decide for themselves that their lives had value. Well, at least one ended up President of the United States even though he came from a broken home with no pedigree.
Tattoos are amoral; God gives freedom; but you are a masterpiece and once you add a tattoo God's masterpiece will be forever lessened from what it was meant to be - unique, one of a kind, incomparable.
I know that those who say the Bible tells us not to be tatted talk about a passage in Deuteronomy where the Jews were told not to mark up their bodies as the pagans do. But as a Christian myself, I have numerous tattoos. I think tattoos are a work of art an even a way to glorify God. I also do not think that we are under Old Testament law since Christ came - He told Peter in a vision that he could now eat pork, which in the Old Testament was also forbidden. I inked my body up with tattoos that represent my faith and my family as well as things I like. I have a very religious friend who her and her husband inked their bodies up with Scripture to be witnesses. I think the reason behind the tattoo is what Christ looks at - He looks at the heart and the motive. So Biblically, I think getting a tattoo is fine.
The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If someone comes and paints on the white painted walls of your house, will you be satisfied? No you will be upset! Why then will God not be disappointed with this? If tattoos were from a Western religion would you still have a tattoo?
I'd say it has more to do with what the tattoo is meant to represent to you and to the world. As others said, if you are using your ink to wiitness to others, I don't think God would be totally unhappy about that. Of course, I can't say I know for sure what God likes or doesn't but if Christ';s blood could wash away our sins, then I would think it would wipe away tattoos too.
The question is a very tricky one! I have to concur with ecoggins that its amoral in ways. I really believe that to just say its a sin would be a form of legalism and therefore saying that its a sin is a sin. I wrote a hub that was a paper for seminary titled Can Christians have Tattoos? I think if you read this it may give you a biblical perspective of tattoos as well as the answer to your question is much more complicated than a yes or no answer or one that could be answered here in the question forum.
Why do people feel the urge to have them selfs marked or have art put on them?

I think that the Christian religion would have been entirely different, if Apostle Paul hadn't screwed things up. It is my firm belief that if Christians really want to be Christ-like, they need to have a dual faith based, religious, belief system. As it is, how can any of us Christians...
