What is the reason for the Pope saying, "Catholics need not reproduce like rabbits.

There surely is a reason for such a statement.

Because it is irresponsible to have too many kids you can't care for. It's not  a reversal of the RC stance on artificial contraception. Lots of people think that the RC says NO birth control, but that is wrong; natural family planning is acceptable and encouraged. NFP is very effective as both a contraception method and a method to achieve pregnancy. It takes some education, patience, and some periods of abstinence (maybe a week or so of no sex each month), but is also very healthy, as it does not use any chemicals.

Seriously? You needed to ask this question? Do a google search for the world clock and do the math. Overpopulation is going to destroy the earth and all of its inhabitants. This planet can only support so many people and that is that.

He is correcting a problem the church caused in the beginning.  It is said in th bible that we must replenish the earth and many people take the way too seriously.  We have replenished the earth many time over.  Having children to only have them in an attempt to replenish the earth and not to love and respect and have some self responsibilty to the earth ans elf is just ludicrous.  Do you realize how many children do not have a home or a family they can belong too?  When we take responsibility for them then we may be doing something great.  Remember we do not OWN our children.  They are given to us so that they can be responsible adults.  Raising a child to be just that takes lots of maturity in the parents.  Having kis just to have them is NOT responsible nor is it mature.
