Why is it assumed that Morals are dictated by Religion? Doesn't that scare you?

   It doesn't scare me because, in practice, it isn't true. Religious people are not dangerous vicious sociopaths only held in check by the teachings of their religious beliefs even if they believe they are. They wouldn't really go on sprees murdering and raping people if they ever stopped thinking God was real even if they say they would. Anyone who would do those things would do them whether they thought God were real or not.
   
   Luckily, the morality of religious believers has evolved right along with everyone else's. If people actually practiced Biblical morality the world would be a savage and terrifying place where parents murdered their children for being disrespectful and where victims were forced to marry their rapists. Your average Christian would never entertain the idea of those actions being moral. They would rightly and instantly class them as immoral.
   
   Societies create morals and morals slowly progress as people communicate better and more openly with each other. Humans are naturally social animals and becoming more kind and humane is a powerful species survival strategy.

      Kylyssa - thanks! Glad it doesn't scare you - it was phrased that way because many fundamentalists assume Atheists are inherently immoral, so it seemed logical to 'assume' for the sake of this question, the fundies r merely moral out of fear.

      With the sort of Media items that are out there the people are becoming more and more unsocial and that has a lot to do with the fix the world is in now. No one has the balls to speak face to face or they are lying about themselves. PS4 & so on!

      Ginosblog, why don't electronically assisted communications between people "count" in your belief system? If you didn't use anything but face-to-face communication you wouldn't even know about troubles in the rest of the world.

   I am not an atheist but I have left the structure of formalized religion and try to be a kind person to others.  All major religions have similar tenants of faith which is to treat others as you would like to be treated and unless someone is a sociopath, I think this is a natural trait in all of us, just that for some people it takes a while to flourish.

   Religion was created by man. I think so People were doing both good and bad deeds long before the bible was ever put together.God made man and man made religion.

      Lov: "Before bible put together?" GOD="the 1st and the last"=CREATOR! If "Believer," dates (man-made) don't matter! When bible compiled DOES NOT matter for He ALWAYS WAS/IS/WILL BE!

   To answer this question we did not come in the world by birth reading and writing and making laws and the standards of right and wrong,
   My parents were my all , they set the standards and rules in my world so young, what is right we do not learn this on our own , we learn from example, our language is by what we hear and communicated to us in exchange.
   So it still goes back to our heritage
   Our family trees our upbringing and who can say that stealing and lying was not of a Christian beliefs from our
   Ancestors. They just pass it down in the family.
   Again I think if people want to believe in God and it makes them respect another human life , then that is a good thing, but if someone does not and he respects human life God does not appear to stop your belief.
   We as humans should not work ahead of The Father.
   But if your belief causes no restraint in how you treat other humans then it is for nothing that you believe and not believe.
   Because it is all about love and how we treat one another.

      Norine true the spirit of God's power works,
      But people still do wrong knowing of the spirits power, that is the very reason of the meaning to Blasphemy.  Judas walked and even ate with Jesus did that stop him from betraying God's son. NO !

      K&T: Back to Judas? Thank GOD for Judas or we wouldn't have "GRACE!" Jesus told Judas to "GO, quickly!"  If Jesus TELLS YOU, what do u do? He wouldn't tell u wrong!  Scripture HAD TO BE FULFILLED! Then He went into grave & who knows?
