To what extent do you shape your own destiny, and how much is down to fate?

Our lives are for the most part the end result of the (choices and decisions) we have made along the way. We have to make a decision before anything happens. After that our journey begins to unfold and every step of the way we're empowered to say "yes" or "no".
It always comes back to us and the choices we made.

You think?  GOD gives some "reprobate minds" so they can NEVER find Him!  Such as those who are "self made!"

It all boils down to the mantra, "Do you make life happen or does life happen to you."  There are people who are proactive regarding their life goals.  They maintain that they make their destiny for either good or ill.  They own their life.  They are the ones who believe & practice that each person is his/her own steward as far as their life goes.

Such people believe that one makes his/her own success.  Yes, they realize that there may be obstacles but such obstacles make them more determined to succeed.  They refuse to permit outside circumstances &/or events preclude them from achieving success.  If they fail, they refuse to let failure deter them from &/or determine their future success. These people MAKE life happen!

There are others who strongly believe that fate &/or outside circumstances & events determine their destiny.  Such people believe that they are powerless & whatever happens was preordained.  They may even argue that there is forces such as luck, happenstance, or ill fortune which have a determining hand as far as their destiny goes.

Such people will rationalize that those who are successful have the right background, IQ, education, parents & other proponents of luck while indicating that those who fail had the proverbial cards stacked against them.  They maintain that there is an "invisible hand" which determines how their particular life will go.  They contend that what happen will.....simply happen.  These people have a passive, even fatalistic mindset, outlook & philosophy as far as life goes.  Life generally HAPPENS to such people.

Continue to "Do your OWN thing" & if not according to WORD, one will suffer consequences!  Keep thinking hi IQ's goals plans what I make it and see what happens when on death bed! You'll seek GOD, but can u find?

Most of it is down to fate. It will coil around us like a snake. We generally have to work through most of our Karma, which in fact is a very complex thing. Still, God is not bound by His laws, and can help us as we progress with longing or earnestness, in the aspiring life. Here are some excerpts from Sri Chinmoy's writings.

"On the one hand, while creating the Universe, God has made certain laws so that there will be some system, some order....if God in His Vision sees something, then the Vision will be transformed into reality. But on the way, if He wishes, He can change the Vision itself in order to arrive at another reality."

Again, this piece is more profound, more sublime:

"There is a world which is infinitely higher than the planets. From there we can easily create, or delete anything in our fate. If we delete what is there, then we can add something new. One's fate can be adjusted by the Grace of the Supreme.

If a seeker is very highly developed and gets considerable Grace, either from God or from a great Spiritual Master, then the planets cannot influence that seeker.

Even if one is an ordinary seeker, if the Master intervenes, then the planets cannot do anything ...God's Grace can change anybody's fate. This Grace is almighty, it changes the occult possibilities and transcends the laws of Astrology, which are God's cosmic laws."

I would finally point out, that Spiritual Masters speak constantly of working with the Will of the Supreme. If God does not will it - which they can see quite easily -  then they do not do it. It would appear that at times, the experience may be necessary for the Soul. Hari Om!

As a student of astrology, now I have firm faith in Karma and fate. My Guru ji also says that Grace can change your destiny.

Yes, Karma - without going into its complexities - generally holds. But God or the Spiritual Master can and sometimes do change the plan. I have seen much of this with our Guru. However, some experiences are needed, and then they do not alter this.

Why do you guys believe in man rather than GOD?  Did not GOD say He knew us before form in mom's womb?  He knows ALL fm your beginning to end & knows some are LOST fm the beginning! Continue in karma & astrology & u will be LOST!

      Thanks Norine.
True. God is All in All. Even Fate or Grace is subjected to the Lord. We can say that the Supreme sanctions, approves, or tolerates. Nothing happens without the Will of the Lord. Prayer and Silence shows this.
