What does it mean to be spiritual?

Often people will say they are spiritual.  Do they believe in spirits?  What do they do as "spiritual" beings?

I can tell you of my views, but I'm not really interested in other people. In Yoga philosophy, the biggest stumbling block, in a manner of speaking, is because we are looking at others. Spirituality is the transformation of one's own nature.

Always be conscious that if there is indeed a judgement, that we are not going to be asked about someone else. God will want to know what we did for Him, not our children or family or friends; not Presidents or just or unjust laws. Accountability and responsibility are so important!

Now I will answer your question: Spirituality is the science that teaches us to know the ultimate or Absolute Truth, the Divine Ground or perennial Entity from which all spring, live and have their being. We are really not different, and in spite of all you read and hear, there is only Spirit with a capital 'S.'

By virtue of having a Soul - some call this different -  but that makes you spiritual. You are in isolation and your purpose is to find your way back or re-discover what you once knew. Rather like unfolding the pages of a book you once read. What should you do?

Faith, soulful and selfless service to humanity; prayer both verbal and silent; meditation ...give, give and give again. Why? They all widen and expand the Heart and will make you receptive to the higher or inner forces coming from the finer realms of the Spirit.

Finally, about spirits, common 's.' The spiritual force works with positive and negative energies, and yes, there are occultic powers both for good and bad, but this is another subject. Do the needful, and you will find that this kind of knowledge will come naturally of themselves. Much Love, Diane.

"The essence of Religion is to fear God and obey God.
The quintessence of Spirituality is to know God and become another God." -Sri Chinmoy, the visionary Seer.

Yes, yes! the Highest law is unconditional surrender to the Will of the Supreme. But it takes time.. Yearning; longing; earnestness; crying or as Christ said, seeking and knocking is necessary. Much Love.

A wonderful statement of spirituality. An individual yet integrated being. This finding of the God within us is such an important focus. We are wise to consider Love that connection with the Spiritual.

Thanks my good brother, Eric. God and man are like a tree and its branches. We need God for our Realisation; God needs us to inspire and elevate ourselves as well as to feed or serve His flock/mankind.

To be spiritual is to pray daily, meditate on Bible verses, and talk about the goodness of God often. Also uplift others with our words, maintain a positive attitude, put God first in every area of life, avoid eating foods that the Bible says are unclean, treat our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit, and invite Christ into our hearts to be our personal Lord and Savoir. Lastly, love the Most High God by obeying His commandments.

" avoid eating foods that the Bible says are unclean" If u think OK (Col 2:16) but under NEW COVENANT one can eat what they desire (Acts 10:13-15)!

Norine, we can't say that we don't deal with the old testament, because God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. It's just an excuse to continue sinning and disobey God's laws.

Need I remind you "If you offend in ONE point, u're guilty of ALL" (Jm 2:10)?
Heb 8:7 "IF 1st covenant faultless,no place would've been sought for the 2nd?"
We "deal w/OT!" Gal 3:24 "Old Cov was our schoolmaster..."
      Did Christ DIE in vain?"
