Awesome is either one's own opinion of them self or it's the opinion of others. Everyone has their own measuring stick for determining their own status or how they feel about them self.
Generally speaking when you live up to and exceed other people's expectations they're likely to consider you to be "awesome".
Awesome is one of those lazy words used for just about everything. Although better than the tiresome ubiquitous F word, the word awesome has a cringe factor of 10 out of ten.
Did you give the right change in a purchase? Awesome.
Nice tie? Awesome.
Big burp? Awesome.
It's become a weak sad joke to use the word awesome.
