What? Is it a bad word?
Is speculation frowned upon in religious studies/discussions?

How come religionists/theists and atheists alike seem so sure of themselves and shun the word maybe!!! As in maybe Jesus meant this/that. Or maybe Krishna was a previous incarnation of Jesus ... etc.
    Who really knows anything?
    - aren't we all ....

                                                 GUESSING??????

no one know a thing for sure.
Its pathetic how we all fake it.

I love it when science teachers explain scientific discoveries in terms of how they were discovered and by whom.

Too often you find out later that the so-called scientific facts which your teacher explained so authoritatively were just based on theories.

You need to study the meaning and usage of the word "theory" in the field of science.  It does not mean "a guess" as you seem to think.

My beat up Webster's paperback dictionary says theory is, "a system of assumptions, accepted principles and rules of procedure devised to analyze, predict or analyze a specified set of phenomena."

"Such knowledge/system is distinguished from experiment or practice."

            It is "abstract reasoning, assumption."

            It is "supposition."

Apparently, it is what is consistent.

Consistent: "agreement, or compatibility of things or parts."

WithIn the various types and groups of religions you have people agreeing with each other as to their suppositions.

            That is human nature.

With scientists, their suppositions are supposed to be based on absolute fact.
            That's not human nature.

            It's Divine.

            NO?

When the term "maybe" is used it imply one has found nothing to substantiate it either way. Yes, it is a supposition or guess until evidence and substance is found to reveal or deny it, as the bible's meaning of "faith" is defined.

    ON THE OTHER HAND
... of course, science does bring forth many facts. Science is a discipline which at least attempts to find the truth of the matter. Religion, not as much.

Therefore, religion should become more science based/scientific. Unless, of course Religious leaders depend on lies for their very livelihood ... which has been the case throughout history ...
