A new Pope: Necessary statesman, or archaic idol worship?

So, we have a new Pope. He was a burning light in the legacy of Pope Francis's identitarian approach to politics. His rise to Papacy was littered with what we in the West would call identity politics in line with his predecessor.

All of that aside, I have two questions to ask both born from a different perspective:

    1. Is this Pope going to rise to the necessary level required of an influential political figure? Will his identitarian politics continue to divide the Orthodox, Judeo-Christian, and progressive base? Does him being an American pose the threat of further schism in the congregation due to the focus on identitarian politics and a keen eye toward Judeo-Christianity?

    2. The Holy Bible is very clear about exalting a single man above the flock, and preaches throughout to distrust and in some cases openly rebuke any who would accept such exaltation (citation is offered if requested in the form of quotes from the Holy Bible). Is the election of a Pope, and the Papacy in general, a relic of the age of idol worship?

I am quite opposed to the mysticism that clouds clear language and lessons in the Holy Bible, but I absolutely love the spirit behind it all. I often say, "I am not a Godly man, but I attempt to live a Godly life."

I prefer a more traditional approach to Christian teachings, focusing on the fundamentals of the logos and its many teachings, as opposed to partaking of the mystical and poetic language, though I see its value.

So enter this conversation with the presupposition I am seeking clarity from the truly religious, a perspective I cannot empathize with but would like to understand and be able to sympathize with on some level.

Too sensitive of a topic to discuss, or a lack of interest in the Papacy?

Bumping the thread due to my interest in the topic, hopefully some people chime in on the topic.

The Pope not a hot topic here on the Hub?

As a member of the largest Catholic country in the world, I can give you the impression of people I speak to every day. The new pope may be a loser like the Argentino but most people are willing to give the guy a chance before deciding he is a loser like the Argentino loser who recently left the office after doing as much for the Church as the Borgia pope he so represented. So far all the new Pope has mentioned is that the wars in Ukraine and Gaza should stop, which everyone agrees with although there are many views on how that should be done. Unless he comes out in favor of murdering unborn children and chemically castrating adolescents most of us are willing to give him a chance.

What is your perspective on his track record within the Bishopric? Of course, I am meaning relative to his actions prior to Papacy, do you think we will see more of his same stances or a more neutral or polar Papacy?

The Pope is chosen by God through his Cardinals and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.   Each Cardinal prays to God and then he answers each of them with a name, they then place that name on the  Parchment. To deny the Pope is to deny God.  He has sent us the Pope we need. A Pope for the times.

Is this meant to be taken in a literal, or philosophical sense?

I believe it is quite literal.  The Cardinals are asking to be shaped by the holy Spirit. Their vote reflects that introspection and God's will.
