   I recently heard that some religious sects are among the richest money making entities in the world. What are they.

      I have no proof of this but I would say the Catholic Church.

         I would have to agree, with the possible exceptions of the oil wealthy Muslims and the Jews (being that they are a nation as well).
         
         But I think SirDent is correct, because the Vatican is a warehouse of priceless artifacts. (the selling of half of which could probably feed the starving children of the world for many generations).

      I've visited the vatican.
      My jaw dropped at the disgusting oppulence being displayed.
      It's beyond "riches!" it is arrogance to the nth degree!
      It represents alledged christianity at the zenith of the "worst!"

      That is one aspect of Catholicism that never made much sense to either. But then again they seem to be the ones most prone to pedophilia.
