   What do you think of Colts owner comments about letting Manning go because of only 1 Super B ring?
   
   Many teams have never won a Super Bowl. He picked this opportune time to utter these words when Denver is playing them. Football can be a mean game. You need to be thick skinned. So many rumors are rampant, and a lot of media hype exists.

   I don't think Irsay meant it the way it's been interpreted.  Besides, he was partially correct. It was more of a slam on Bill Polian than anyone else, and to a certain extent, Tony Dungy.  They had a high-powered offense and a bend but don't break defense that gave up a lot of points on a regular basis, especially in big games (almost every time they played the Pats).  I love Peyton, one of the all time greats. He's done all he can do, whether he wins another Super Bowl or not.  But his record in big games is not good. It happens to great players all the time.  Look at Elway before 1997.  So there's a lot of blame to go around for Peyton's failure to win another ring and Irsay is right to point that out.
   Great question.

   I believe he made those comments to mask the fact that he let Manning go because he didn't believe Peyton could overcome and recover from his neck injury. He was trying to cut his loss and move on. Today's NFL is all about money and winning. He didn't feel like Manning could perform at such a high level anymore, so he dumped him. I felt it was a bad decision from the very start.

   A smart player doesn't want to say anything that would end up on the other team's bulletin board and stand as a motivator.  Now when an owner does it he's not sending his team a very good message.  I look and the Peyton Manning-Andrew Luck changing of the guard as a win-win for both teams.  There should be no controversy.  The idea of Manning playing his whole career in Indianapolis would have been perfectly fine.  Consider the draft picks that St. Louis got for trading the No. 2 pick in 2012 to Washington, and the Colts could have done the same thing and kept Manning.  But Manning was somewhat of a question mark because of the neck injury that cost him the 2011 season.  Luck was not only too good to pass up, he was a necessity.

      Even if Manning could not come back 100%, I think the Colts should have kept him as a tutor for Luck.

   I live in Indianapolis and find Jim Irsay intolerable.  He is a media whore.  He frequently tweets ill considered and intemperate things and than has to retract, back peddle and damage control.
