Jim Thorpe, who was voted the greatest American athlete of the Twentieth Century by ABC Sports. He played baseball, basketball, and football, as well as being awarded gold medals in the Olympics games and all was restored after once taking this from him because of his semi-professional activity before the Olympics. He has many noted things named after him and these include "Jim Thorpe Day" and induction into many museums and numerous awards and medals over the years. He was a native American from Oklahoma and well represented those who would strive to better themselves in all's way of life, by his hard work and athletic prowess.

    Herschel Walker...

    - 3x College All-American in football
    - 1982 Heisman Trophy winner
    - 2x NFL Pro-Bowler
    - 8th all-time (NFL) in all purpose yards (rushing, receiving, return yards)
    - 5th Degree Black Belt in tae kwon do
    - Almost made the Olympic sprint-relay team in the 80's
    - Competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics as part of a two-man bob sled team
    - 2-0 in his only 2 MMA fights (His victories came at age 47 & 48)

Perhaps even crazier than all the stuff Walker has accomplished is his workout regimen. He has never worked out in a gym with weights, but instead has done 3,500 sit-ups and 1,000 push-ups every day since he was a kid. At age 50 he still looks like a 20-year-old professional athlete in his prime.

In order to actually voice an opinion about who might qualify as the world's greatest athlete yet, it is probably a very good idea to set out a number of guidelines that the candidates must meet. First of all, we must agree on what an athlete is... read more

    Rocky Marciano.

THE ONLY UNBEATEN heavyweight boxing champion ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Not Cassius Clay.  Not Ali.  Not Larry Holmes.  Not Jack Dempsey.  Not Joe Louis.  Not John L. Sullivan.  Not Tyson.   Not Evander Holyfield.  Not even the Olympic hero, Big George Foreman.

No heavyweight King  has ever been unbeaten except for the 188 pound. "too small" and "too old",  Brockton Bomber.

Also he was a pretty nice guy.  I was lucky enough to see him a few times at the Massachusetts Greyhound tracks in Taunton and Raynham.

The track and field star, Jesse Owens, because in addition to his other outstanding achievements, he broke Adolf Hitler's heart and really did piss him off.
