What country will emerge as the overall winner in the 2012 Olympics in terms of most golds won?
In 2008, China is the overall winner of the Olympic and US garnered the second spot, then Russian Federation, UK then Australia.
I can see that most likely, UK will go higher in ranking including the US, and China will still be there but not as the top winner anymore.
What do you think about this? Does home advantage matter?
I don't think home advantage will be a major factor in overall gold medal winners. It has more to do with the competitors in each event. I would expect to see China or USA take top spot this year followed by Australia.
Can't see past China in all honesty, they simply have such a huge talent pool that I think over the next few games they will move further and further in front. USA will give them a good run for their money but it looks very much a one horse race. The battle for 3rd will likely be the most interesting, I'd side with Russia but UK and Australia will be running them hard.
