Modern formal wear, you like them or think its stupid.
When you go to work, you need to wear a tie and an uncomfortable suit. In formal party you need to wear a tux. I mean seriously, who came up with these ideas. I hate having to wear a ties to work, a piece of cloth tied around your neck, that is so stupid. It use to be even worse, in WW1 officers wear a green suit and tie into battle(soooooooooo stupid).
I hate having to dress up, always have, ever since I was a kid. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy.
Fortunately I work in an "office casual" environment so I mostly wear black jeans/khakis and golf shirts. I haven't had to "dress up" for work in so long that I don't even remember how to tie a neck tie anymore.
It looks better. That's why people do it. One's appearance conveys a perception about them: their attention to detail; their level of taste and sophistication; their upbringing; their hygiene; their financial means. Consequently, well-dressed people are often treated better by strangers.
