BitTorrent : The Simplest Way to Share Files

Updated on May 30, 2011

In the past, people share files over ftp  or email. But think these sharing limits only few no of people. Moreover, to share movie, music, software etc. really has rustication then. Does these sense good? For sometimes, it sense good. Think, a new movie has been released in Hollywood just today. To watch or to enjoy that movie, what do you have to do? Sure, you have to wait to arrive that movie in your local DVD shop or you have to buy it or you have to borrow it to any of your friends. Is this a good idea? Surely not. Is there any alternative? What do you think? Yes... there is an alternative? Of course, there is an alternative. And that is bitTorrent, which makes you to download and use or enjoy several books, games, movies, music, pictures, software, TV shows and lots of other things also.

Most people are very familiar to share through emails and through ftp. But BitTorent is not such type of sharing method. BitTorrent is a file sharing protocol and it's not the same like the traditional file sharing. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. It is used for distributing large amounts of data anywhere in the world. More than 40% of the total bandwidth of the entire Internet is used or estimated by BitTorrent. So, it is really a popular thing to all of the people around the world.

By using BitTorrent you can both share and download anything you want. You can upload or download .avi, .exe, .doc, .jpeg, .mp3 etc. easily. So, different types of movies, software, books, pictures, music is in your had now.

I will try to explain about BitTorrent and its working process by giving an example. Let there is a book The book contains several chapters. You have only one chapter in your hand. The other chapters are not with you. So, what do to do, if you want to read the whole book. You search the book to all of your friends. Now, you find that no body has the full book. Everybody has only some chapters. But if you collect from all of them, then you will find the full book to read. Here, you short out the guys who has only some chapters. But nobody has the complete book. So, you share the chapters among your friends till all of you get the full copy of the desired book.

In the above example, you lean to collect a full book. In the real world, the "book" is your complete desired file for example it might be the movie or the software. The "chapters" are the piece of the entire file. These pieces are termed generally bits. You share files among your friends but in BitTorrent world, all the computers are share and download files. So, in the Internet world, all the computers share and download bits by bits among each other and finally get the total file. And all these are done by using BitTorrent.

So, I think you understand about BitTorrent clearly. In a sentence, you can tell that BitTorrent is a simple file sharing and downloading process.
