Personally I have built a few computers in my day and for the most part no, the price does not justify the speed. When the i7's first came out I got one for my gaming rig and I got the base 920 model for about $150. It is a 2.67 quad-core with hyperthreading which makes it seem as though it is an 8-core system. Now it is an extremely fast processor for the money. That being said the higher models with slight speed increases are not worth it at all. I have my 920 currently overclocked safely to 3.4 Ghz. Which was the stock speed of the most expensive i7 at the time. Cost about $1000! So if you are planning on getting one of these get the base model and just overclock. If you need tips on overclocking let me know and I'll be glad to help you out.
