They never really cared about Vista, and only kept it around and ugraded because they had to.
Now that 7 is out, that is going to be their main focus.
Vista will be phased out just like other older OS'
Well some will argue that Windows 7 is essentially a sp3 for Vista. I'm not sure if they'll ever do a real sp3 for Vista - probably just do security fixes etc.
I note that these days, with the constant updates available, it does negate the need for a full release anyways unless there are really serious problems.
Vista will still be supported for quite some time. MS is still selling Vista and therefore still going to support it for quite a while. Although 7 is the trend now, there are tons of places that are running Vista. Traditionally service packs are just hotfixes rolled into a single upgrade with possibly a few additions.

I thought I was buying the whole Windows 7 from Dell when I wanted to upgrade from Vista. I now find out that this is just an "Upgrade" which means that Vista is still on my hard drive, just with Windows 7...

I am infuriated over Microsoft's release of Windows 7 aka Vista SP3.I lost track of the amount of time I spent reformatting and reinstalling Vista when it was first released. There were never answers I upgraded...
