I found that BOOKS are best for learning the basics.  Then, for particular questions one might get stuck on, search specifically for answers to those on the internet.

Here are a couple of books I bought some years ago that were really helpful.  You can probably get them used and cheap on Amazon, or maybe newer editions for more:

    Build a Web Site in a Day: … ansheal-20

PHP for the World Wide Web … ansheal-20

not to self promote needlessly or anything, but I started a blog a few weeks ago on technology and programming (which is my specialty as i am a Comp Sci major and web dev is my hobby). I haven't posted anything recently but that was due to finals and everything. I plan to catchup on all this stuff and I will be writing more tutorials on HTMl, PHP, and if you want I can write some on javascript.

I also have a few hubs on it and i will be writing more, so keep an eye out for my stuff. Feel free to leave me comments on my current articles for any articles or topics you want me to cover.

Other than that, w3school is a good place to learn.

I am sure there are plenty of online tutorial for most the web technology. But one I prefer is , reason being it is simple to understand, not long explanation and they have examples for each of HTML tags or JavaScript functions , syntax etc. Give it a try, you will find it easy.

They also have tutorial for PHP, ASP.
