Over time a battery will not hold as much of a charge. You will probably notice that the battery does not last as long as it did when new. If the laptop is 6 years old a new battery would be beneficial.

If your laptop is over 6 years old, it might be more worthwhile going out and buying a new laptop. You could buy a really cheap one that would be way more powerful than this one, for less than buying a replacement battery for it.
