    Libreoffice is a very good free word processor in my opinion. Not sure of any other free programs that would really compare. You can download that straight from their website:

    It can be difficult to get clean software these days. For most regular users, I'd recommend avoiding sites like CNET and Sourceforge. They try a bit to hard to slip crapware onto your computer.

    Majorgeeks is a good site for downloads. Here is their section for Microsoft office and alternatives: … uites.html

    Also here is an interesting article talking about the Installers that CNET and Sourceforge have started using which try to pass crapware to you (several other craptastic sites are mentioned as well): … load-sites

    I use OpenOffice which is shareware. They don't place ads in the program and I've never experienced any malware, viruses, or anything else bad from using it.
