And if so, what host do you use? And why, please?

Looking to start one and would like some opinions.

I use godaddy. it's fine, no problems. I've heard that hostgator is good also. I paid for the year, but I know godaddy just raised their price.
check out sunforged here at HP. he has some great info on host sites.  http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-WebSite-Ho … -beginners

Bought my domain on Godaddy. Hosted on Bluehost. I use wordpress.org, and I use the Socrates premium theme (I even wrote a Hub about the theme). Check out my profile for the web address, and check out the site if you would like to see Socrates in action. Cheers

Ditto what Rebekah said. I use GoDaddy right now, mainly because I think their customer service is the best. They have people available by phone 24x7, and they are knowledgeable, courteous, intelligent and totally helpful.

very true. especially when you're setting up. they were prompt and very helpful. when I couldn't figure out why something wasn't working, they immediately identified the problem. it had nothing to do with them, I had failed to change something on my domain registry. they also honored their current sign up price for the year even though it was going up the next month. the loading time is quick also.

I'm glad those above me have had good luck with godaddy, but I've actually heard lots of bad things about them. They tend to overload their servers so if you have a high bandwidth site you get lots of downtimes.

I use hawk host and am very happy with them. I use wordpress for blogging software. Best thing is to surf the net and find out what people are saying about host. Good luck. smile

Yes, several people warned me about that, too.  I recently switched to Hostgator, which is the service several HubPages veterans use so I reckoned it had to be reasonably OK.  I do find it a tad slower than my previous host (which was an Australian company), but their customer service is fantastic and the price offered me a big saving.

Just moved from Hostgator from Servage after hideous performance issues and cost cutting. Use go-daddy for domains.

I use the wordpress backend. I also have hubs/articles/blogs on a wide range of other free alternatives.

This is what I do too.  Get cheap domains from Godaddy and then host them with Hostgator.  In the last 2 years I have no complaints about either service.  The reason I use both services is because I have always been told that it's not wise to have all  your "eggs" in one basket.

it's always being hostgator and godaddy for me as well. Hostgator has 5 star support in most cases and really have your needs in mind, not to mention unlimited bandwith that is really handy

I use blogger for both of my blogs. They are easy to sue and have great templates. All for free. You can get adsense through google and not have to do a thing. I would do that.

    Peace*
