Describe your favorite historical monument. Why is it so special to you? What makes it historical?
My most favorite is Gettysburg, PA. When we toured there, I could feel the pain of the soldiers. I could invision the battles. I saw the cannonballs in the buildings. I have always been a big fan of the civil war history so it was a treat for me. I am not a big fan of war sites but I will tell you that Gettysburg is the best! The people are friendly and they help you feel Gettysburg. We are going back in Sept and I can hardly wait!
This one may fall under prehistorical. In Southern Colorado is little known Chimney Rock archaeological area. This site is very interesting having been built by the Chaco indians. They were very much like the Romans in their tendency for their villages to have a common layout and their roads to be straight. This site breaks all the rules however. In trying to determine why archaeologists discovered that standing at the Kiva gave a view of Chimney Rock and Companion Rock, anothe rock spire. Once every 18.7 years at the point where the moon is at its most northern rising point, the moon rises exactly between the spires. Pretty neat place in beautiful country
