    Pack a light camera with a zoom lens that can shoot wide angle shots (at least a 28 mm, smaller if you can afford it) and at least some zoom ability, 135 mm, for instance.
    Pay attention to lighting -- that's a key to good photos anywhere. Be respectful of the locals -- not all appreciate a camera shoved in their face. Be respectful of the place and landscapes, and, if encountered, wild animals. We're the visitor, it's their place.
    A tripod or a monopod can be a big help. If shooting landscapes in low light or long exposures, not only put the camera on a tripod, use a cable release or remote release.

    And slow down to enjoy the experience.
