Can anyone recommend cheap summer travel/project options?

I've got a fairly long summer coming up, and a small amount of money saved.  Can anyone suggest worthwhile or interesting things to do?

Playing free video games is always cheap:) also consider buying a Kindle 3 if you don't have one already, and read the entire H.P. Lovecraft works, you can get them for free of the internet(legally). Cooking is always fun and not very expensive, i recommend italian, romanian, vietnamese, cuban and mexican.

Before anyone can recommend cheap summer travel destination, they will need your location or airport you will be flying from.
For example, you are located in  New york, North America, London, Europe, Japan, Asia, Nigeria, Africa, Australia and rest of the world.

May be this link will give you some information and ideas. Visit the link and choose your destination.

Mr Nice, that is very true, and pretty foolish of me to be honest, I'm in England, and can travel from pretty much anywhere if needs be.  I've bookmarked the weblink to use nearer the time.

Khal, I checked out some of your lists of games and will probably get round to downloading a few of them when the time comes around.  Unfortunately Kindle fire isn't available here yet, and I'm waiting for it.  I've never read anything by Lovecraft, but having just read his wikipedia page, definitely sounds like a decent author, I'll check him out too, thanks.

I think some travel volunteering with charities like vso, global volunteers or volunteers abroad is a worth thing to do!

Have you tried volunteering for the Olympics? I have no idea how and if places are taken, but remember seeing something about this on the TV.

    Good luck!
