It's about as safe as any major city.
If you stick to the tourist areas you should be fine. We had a wonderful time!

I have been, its perfectly safe. Very expensive, dirty and the people are some of the most rude I have ever come across, but its safe enough. just be careful of traffic, they drive like nutters there and wont stop for people crossing the road - they try to swerve round them instead. Oh and don't be surprised if you are casually walking along the pavement one day and a scooter almost runs you over! That happened to me, apparently they cant be bothered waiting in traffic so just hop up on to the pavement and go around it instead.

Apparently you must have gone beyond the tourist spots (Eiffel Tower,  Louvre Museum, The Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Arc de Triomphe, and Champs-Élysées were very clean.) I also went outside of Paris to Palace of Versailles.
      It was clean too.

Sad thing is that we didn't. the tourist spots were fine, it was the pubs and restaurants, places like that that were absolutely filthy (not all of them obviously but enough to make an impression) the apartment was also disgusting!

Wow! I stayed at Hôtel Plaza Athénée . It was top notch! http://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/ … za-athenee
Next time I'll look into staying at the Marriott on Champs-Élysées next to Lido de Paris theatre. I stuck to tourist sites

We were there in 2013 and had no problems with crime and had a wonderful time. You'll be fine.

I quickly discovered Paris, France to both be an extraordinarily beautiful city to explore and the "Parisians" to be significantly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. If I may add I felt safe everywhere I ended up and I was indeed as safe as I felt visiting Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The last time I visited was 2012 and I experienced a most wonderfully extraordinary stay. My only regret was I did not share this experience with my Better-Half. I slept near the Arc de Triomphe in a quant delightful hotel, attended Mass at Notre Dame, was mesmerized by the "Louvre," fell in love with French cuisine once again, slowed my time down sipping coffees at various cafés all around my sleep-place inclusive of the Cafe Van Gough at night (without Christ and His Disciples I must add). I walked all over Paris and endured both the shopping at Champs-Élysées and the number of souls by the scenic Eiffel Tower. The escargot at Montmartre was quite a delight to slide down...

Thank you for your input John. It seems that all the replies are positive. Hope we find the city as you described it.

Wonderful city to visit and yes - I'd say it's safe. Of course, like all major tourist cities, it's wise to be aware and careful. Paris is a city of contrast and delight - the Louvre -Eiffel Tower,  Notre-Dame Cathedral, Montmartre, Sacré Cœur church, the Latin Quarter, Place de la Concorde, Champs-Elysées, Catacombs of Paris, so much to see and the food...mmmmm. Are you thinking of a visit Linda?
