Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Wales is the longest place name in Europe.  In English it means “The Church of Mary in the Hollow of the White Hazel near the Fierce Whirlpool and the Church of Tysilio by the Red Cave.

The place is located in North West Wales, just 230 miles from where I live.

I can't say It, but my husband can and often used to recite it to our kids when we holidayed in Wales many years ago.

Cool.  I can't either, but my grandmother (born in Bristol) grew up in Wales, and could speak a little Welsh quite well, which I used to love listening to; it's such a beautiful language.

If you are addressing a letter to someone who lives there, you have to have a long envelope.

Fortunately, a shortened version, just the first 20 letter's "Llanfairpwllgwyngyll", as displayed on the village 'Welcome Sign', is acceptable by the Post Office for addressing a letter.
