   Search engine optimization
   
   I really want to learn SEO to be more effective with earning some revenue in the future from my writing. I am very new to  this concept and have read all I can on the subject without much success so far! Are you self taught or did you attent a training course etc to help you with SEO?

      SEO is not about writing but more about research, analyzing and implementing. Other than adding meta tags and keywords in the tags, you have to know some HTML and PHP. If you are optimizing the site, you need to know how to add schema data markup, AMP for mobile, and the list goes on. I did take training and some online courses. Moz, Search Engine Land, Neil Patel are great resources to start with.

   Dont be obsessed with seo but its better if you write what you know the best way. i think seo has basically to do writing keyword rich articles that people are looking for in the web and one way of doing exactly that is writing articles the best way you can while at the same time having in mind and incorporating probable keywords in your posts. hope this helps

   SEO can be pretty easy if you leave it to the headings. Start by writing what you want to write. When you are done, give each paragraph a title based on its content. The first three paragraphs headers should have your keywords. It's not hard to do. Then be sure to wrap it up by putting the keyword in the heading for the last paragraph too. Lastly, put the headings in bold type. Without going to school or lots of self study that ought take you farther than no SEO at all.

   I always suggest that you write well researched, interesting articles on topics that fascinate you.  Then, go to the Google Keyword Tool and find some keywords that have high search numbers and low competition and that fit with your article.  Finally, incorporate those words and phrases into your article, and use them on your tag line (keyword line) when you publish the article.  Then, you will be starting with a well-written article that also has good basic SEO.  Good luck!

   I started out self-taught with SEO, and then later one of my clients turned into a bit of a mentor in the area of on-page SEO and online marketing. His business just hit the ten-figure income mark, and I have learned so much more from him than I ever could have by researching various anonymous sources on the web. I wrote a hub on the six points of on-page SEO that you can use for every page that may be a useful starting point for you. I have a few others on research and various types of optimization, and trying to get more up. Please feel free to ask specific questions in the comments section of the hub where the questions arise, and I will gladly answer them or, if appropriate, write a hub on the subject.

   SEO is not as difficult to understand as people say but one thing is agreed that you have to be consistent to benefit from SEO for ever. It needs a lot of back linking.....

   @ wychic - I read your hub and found it very informative, I have bookmarked it so that I can refer to it frequently. I need to make a point of setting aside some real time to get into it properly and do all I can to get it right. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I am very grateful.

   I'm self taught.  There are tons of great articles out there about SEO.  It's important to make sure that you're reading current information about this topic because it has changed significantly even during the last couple years.

   I am a self taught SEO. All I can say is keep reading.
   - Try to dig new terms and research them (example: content siloing)
   - Ask yourself questions and try to answer them in a blog article. It will help research deeper.
   - Keep following main stream SEOs (Neil Patel, Brian Dean, etc...) but search for less known SEOs, usually they provide more useful techniques (Matthiew Woodward... awesome guys)
   - Accept free projects. That's what I did in order to get my hands dirty and learn. Now I manage 40K pages website in 14 countries.
   - Lastly, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. I was surprised to know that the SEO community is very helpful. use reddit, quora, google product forums, hubpages.
