Is HubPages becoming too "vanilla"?
Is HubPages becoming too "vanilla"? It seems that more and more people are being censored by having ads disabled for various reasons. Can we get too bland?
I really thought that the hub pages were located in the Orange state. Try to find a word that rhymes with Orange. Actually the hub pages share their home the with the San Fransisco Giants who are just one win away from becoming the new world series champions. How's that for bland? Keep on hubbing
I have had 2 hubs withdrawn by the moderators and wasn´t pleased about it. The first hub had Google ad´s withdrawn because of the content, but it was not in the least offensive, just written about a disease that can cause problems of a sexual as well as emotional nature ( Peyronie´s disease that affects the penis) The second time I had a hub withdrawn was because of eBay ad´s. The hub was about wildlife where I live , and I had put on wildlife related eBay products, but as you know these change on their own and somewhere along the line someone had commemorative coins featuring Canadian wildlife for sale. I was unpublished because of this. I did feel on both occasions that HP was being over picky, although in the case of the peyronies disease hub I had a feeling Google would be unhappy, but as for the coins, that just left me speechless and then quite angry. All in all though, I do love HP, but I have to say that yes, I also think we are getting a bit puritanical.
I think what is happening here is that HP started out as a site for people who could write pretty much what they wanted, but as time has gone on, Google Adsense has tightened the reins and HP has had to comply. They apparently don't want hubs that are non family oriented or that refer to or show photos of distasteful things such as certain body parts.
Google calls the shots and if HP writers don't comply, they lose money. Google knows that these things cause controversy, which in turn causes hard feelings, which in turn can lead to people getting turned off on Google.
Just remember, it's all about the money.
I'll be honest, in today's world where everything is so crass and in your face - I actually crave a little blandness and decorum.
I think Hubpages is getting less vanilla and more overrun with religious and politcal rants in the guise of articles, and way too personal sob stories that don't really shed any light on a problem. As a site that depends on Google Adsense and must abide by GA's vanilla guidelines, I think HP need to get back to vanilla or else no one will make any money.
There are better places to post diatribes and tales of personal woe, like a personal blog, where you don't have to worry about moderators disabling your ads.
Yes, I have seen many of these "articles"... they are more like blog posts.

A lot of people are stealing photos and pictures from other sites and putting them on Hubpages. While a lot of the pictures are copyright violations, others are ones stolen from public computers or sites without the permission of people involved. In India there is a double...

How does someone get 100 plus fans in a short period of time? I like having fans but I wonder what it means when a hubber adds hundreds of fans in only one day or less? You know what I mean you see you have a new fan but check out their fans you see hundreds of fans in a short period of time...
