Do aliens stay away because we're violent?

Well if I was from a peaceful race and watched earth with all its wars it wouldn't be my favourite holiday destination! What do you think?

Maybe aliens have access to media and like saw Lady Gaga or something. That'd scare the bejeezus out of me.

I certainly hope so. If you consider that our species has yet to discover additional life forms and that would thus mean they are more advanced technologically and are perhaps also intellectually superior as well I would hate to see the results of an affront by our species that could mean them using what ever they have developed to assure peace on their planet against us.
Consider this...when the US bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima it was touted as a  means to achieve a "peaceful" solution. The devastation was total and still affects the Earth. A more advanced people could have the capability to extinguish humans as a "peaceful" alternative since we have set the precedent.
Is Earth a beautiful planet ? Of course, and while we live here even we see the destruction man has caused and continues to inflict all in the name of progress. I think (not believe) that the possibility exists that other life forms can exist and just from an environmental standpoint wonder if they would wonder why we don't work to save and restore such a glorious planet rather than contaminate and pollute it regularly. As ambassadors of Earth it would be a difficult sell as a tourist attraction unless we can hide the real world from those who must already know the difference. Maybe one of our illustrious illusionists such as David Copperfield can make the yucky stuff all disappear like the Statue of Liberty did during his performance and all our visitors would see is the image we wish them to. But I won't hold my breath. Interesting question though and I will watch to see additional responses...

No, they stay away because they don't have the technology to get here.
Why is there always this presumption that should aliens exist, they are technologically superior to us, or more peaceful than us.  These ideas are just wish fulfilments to make us as children so that adults come along to get us out of trouble, much the same as an omnipotent god really.
The chances are, if there are aliens clever enough to get here, we don't want them.

Asianlight, my answer to that question no. I do not think there are any life forms beyond our solar system capable of traveling to earth. As it stands now, our planet is the only planet of eight in  our own solar system with life that is intelligent enough to do limited space travel, in this case just to the moon. After our solar system the next nearest earth-like planet that might have life on it and if that life form has space travel capability is 10 light-years away. It will take them more than 10 years just to get here traveling near the speed of light. Any slower will take them more than 10 years or longer to get here. The rest of the earth-like planets in our galaxy are simply too far away to travel to here and anything  from outside our galaxy traveling from the nearest galaxy, Andromeda, would take more than 2.5 millions years to get here.

I personally think the aliens use this planet as a huge reality TV show. They introduce different strains of humanity, limit our resources so we have to compete, give us just enough intelligence to make weapons of mass destruction but not enough sense to know not to use them, and then watch the fun!

I think if they exist they are or were at one point helpful but neutral . If they come near us now, how would we react? We already act superior to each other, it may be hard to admit but we are hostile as a collective- most of us can't even be peaceful too each other. Don't mean too put it out there but let's be real. I wish we could, I wish everything was done out of love, but it is not.

Ever watch those Ancient Alien shows... very interesting.

aslanlight, the answer is simple: This planet and its sentient beings are simply too uninteresting and unintelligent for any alien to be intrigued enough to visit our world and make their presence known to us. We lack the intellectual capacity to be able to handle their manifestation, and have not yet evolved to a point where our technology can compete with anything that they already possess.

It's just as well. If they did visit us, they would probably determine that the human race is a scourge on this blessed Earth, and wipe us all out like some bacterial infection treated with a regimen of tetracycline, penicillin, and cyanide.

Besides, if they landed in Washington D.C., and they asked the nearest talking mouth hole to be taken to our leader, no one would know who that was, exactly, since we haven't had any real leadership in this country since Clinton. A debate would ensue, guns would be drawn, and the alien would get caught in the cross-fire, ending our chances of gaining the knowledge we need to survive as a species on this planet.

Aliens stay away because they recognize that our response to them would be couched in fear.  I compare it to a return of Jesus Christ to earth.  Should he return today, I am afraid that humanity would cast his fate in death once more out of fear.  That fear would blind most of us to his true identity...that would be the difference in true-believers and the rest.  It is much the same with aliens.  At some point, they will probably understand us well enough to find ways to communicate with us and evolve a relationship.  Until then, they will keep their distance to keep us from hurting ourselves. I think the cost of petrol might put them off.  When you consider how much a litre costs now and the distance they would have to travel, I think it little wonder that they holiday closer to home.

No, they are watching us, and often they have been observed hovering in the sky, whenever there is a catastrophic event taking place. There are some people, like Shirley MacLaine, that claims they have had conversations with aliens. It is actually our brothers and sisters from other galaxies..some are advanced and some are not..It has been predicted that eventually there will be more contact with them in this century..

First you have to believe in life outside of our own planet. I do, and I don't think this conflicts with my belief in God. If God can create us, what makes us think that he didn't litter the universe with others just like us. And to answer your question, they don't stay away, they visit us all the time. They don't have to physically touch down or let us see them to be here. If they have the technology to travel thru space and time, they could be here in a different dimension and we would never know it. I think that aliens walk among us all the time and do things to change the destiny of the human race. I'm pretty sure that they are even in our own congress, Nancy Pelosi can't be human.

To reply to a point raised. I'm not saying they don't visit; I'd like to think that they do, but they don't make themselves visible to most of us. They might if we were more responsible and friendly.

My response to the assumption that they're too far away to visit; how do we know their technology isn't advanced enough? Surely anything's possible?

I may be wrong, but I think  they are not far away, and they are helping in times when the Earth is on the brink of destruction.
Many times nuclear war was eminent, but, in the last moment something changed.
Mankind is still not capable of governing the planet Earth without help.
And natural disasters can destroy Earth without alien help.
But, if we dont prove ourselfs capable of governing the Earth,an Asteroid will hit the earth, wipe out humans, like dinosaus, and who knows, the next main species on the planet may be...the birds!

I think if "aliens" had the technology to get here they wouldn't be woriied about how violent humans are. It would be a bit like humans not populating areas where big cats live.

  23. jtyler profile image60

It certainly is possible.  To adress what melpor says, there are theories for faster than light travel that don't break our established laws of physics, so someone from Andromeda could come in just a few years or less.  I agree with what Wayne Brown says.  Jim Crowthers may be correct as well.  There are actually stories of alien encounters.  Some of them are probably fabrications, but some of them probably have truth to them.
