   What are the ways that Western religions in particular used the concept of hell & damnation as

      Read your excellent hub. Your eloquent synopsis on religion is SPOT ON and ON TARGET.  Religions have the knack to inculcate their followers into means which will guarantee their "faithful" service to their particular religious "POWERS THAT BE" .

   This scripture proves that the lake of fire is symbolic .you can not literally throw death in fire ! Which also proves that the Scripture says death will be no more. Again how can you throw hell in a fire if he'll is suppose to fire.
   but hell changed into the original Hebrew and Greek word use as hades , and sheol as mankind's grave.
   that is why death and hell is thrown in the fire. Because it is sybolic to mean never to return. Yes death will be cured a thing of the past.

   Why do you constantly lump Christianity in with other religions using words like fanatical, religionists, western religions, right-wing fundamentalists?
   
   I know why your run of the mill atheists do that, because&actually accurately so, they view religions as worldviews contrived by deluded people.So do I,but deluded by Satan as are atheists who lump Christianity with other world religions. All the world religions are man made ways of reaching up to God but Christianity is not that at all & even a died in the wool atheist, if he/she values reason and logic can see how it is wrong to lump them together.
   
   I have followed you here on HubPages for a long time & I have no doubt you are intuitive, analytical & intelligent but I can't get over the fact that someone like you does not see the distinction I am making about Christianity.
   
   You disagree with Christianity? OK. I can accept that but you can't honestly disagree with a worldview when you label it as something it is not or lump it in with beliefs that are 180degrees diametrically opposed to it. If I am not getting through to you maybe this will explain it better, I trust you'll read it?

   Another thing that atheists do (I'm not saying you) is act as if they & only they can interpret the meaning or basis of Christianity by taking scriptures out of context.The Bible is a complex book of 66 books with 44 authors written over 2000 years and yet it conveys one message throughout the entire book because there is really only one author & that message is the Gospel of salvation and the author is God.
   
   Recently a rabid atheist here on Hub Pages told me "This "Dr. Miller" has no degrees relevant to the subject at hand. Bible and speech degrees do not qualify one to be a credible historian." because Dr. Miller totally dispelled an assertion of his. Yet this same huber feels he is qualified to attack the tenants of the Bible with lies & distortions anytime he is afforded the opportunity.The Bible, the Word of God. You had better be sure you are qualified to take on the Bible.If you think you have to have some special qualifications to read, research & understand history how much more would you need that to understand the Bible?The sad thing is there are tons of people more intelligent & dedicated to truth and knowledge than you or I who can explain the Bible yet some are so full of themselves they will not try to listen.

      Why do you lump all atheist and agnostics together?  That Bible has been mistranslated and manipulated so much by the powers that be, I doubt seriously if you can even understand what it is saying. What u r doing is using it as a sword to harm.

   Various ways basically. I mean just the threat of hell can get someone to conform. And then depending on the contents of your sect even more can be used to control people.
   
   Now, I realize that there's SO many different Christian sects and groups, but let's not sugar coat this and turn a blind eye to the sects that ARE like this. Which is a problem with most modern day movements. They just go "oh well ANY group has their nutters!" as if it makes it any better, or any different, or remedies anything the nutters have done.
   
   Anyways, yeah that's a big one. Church members will make you feel bad, the bible or church might instill feelings of shame for "Letting down God" or not living that "Sacred" life (and I'm not saying the bible itself willl do this, but Church + bible might, depending on how the church spins it). The concept of falling victim to "the world" and "sin" will do its job and keep people in line. Which is sad. And it makes me wonder if being "sanctified" is really all it's cracked up to be - that is, if it's the way to go. People put so much time and effort into living a "Holy" life and looking down on others or feeling superior to them. In the end - is that what's needed? Is that what God wants? How do you know? Are you sure? Really now?

      I so agree with your comment ? What does God want ? It is clear in the bible. People seem to stray off into their own conclusion
      and use it as powers over others who will not read and research for them self
      Or worse read the truth and reject it.
