   I am not sure what you mean by what is wrong with country music because as a country music lover of both old and new evidence that it is here to stay is very strong. Turn on your radio.

   @Diana Lee: I'm asking both fans and "haters" to be critical to that sector of music. I like my music to have a point, personally, so for country music, I'd like to tune-out hearing about "mud on my tractor" and for rap music, I'd like to stop hearing about how "long" your money is etc etc etc.

   I love country music, a love for which I am constantly ridiculed. I honestly don't know what is supposed to be wrong with country music, but I wish someone would tell me because I think it's great.

      I apologize to you also, I worded that poorly. I meant to be critical to the genre. For instance, how can it improve? I know the genre gets a lot of heat, and I applaud you for being a martyr to your music.

   I don't think there is anything wrong with today's country music. I, too, love country music although I must admit I love the old style country music!!  Not the sad, weeping style so much as the fun-loving hobo hillbilly mountain style.  I think possibly some of today's modern country music has maybe crossed over a little too much to rock, pop  and/or even folk and maybe the linedancing aspect has crossed over as well.  Whatever its complexity  - it is still great to think that our country music stars can still improve their worldwide popularity by crossing over to other genre's as it were.  I love the country music that stays well within it western roots.  I don't think Country Music is necessarily dead, I think, as with all forms of life, it have evolved!

   Unfortunately, country music changed when Garth Brooks came on the scene. Don't get me wrong - I love Garth Brooks. But he introduced a new sound in country music by combining country with a little rock and roll mixed in. True country music was left by the wayside. Garth Brooks, however, had his own sound and it was more country than rock and roll. Others after him slowly put more rock into the classic country and western sound.

   Country music is far from dead. If it was why are some pop, rock and alternative musicians crossing over to country? Why are country performers a hot commodity for reality shows or the big screen? Because country music sells. It's a billion dollar a year business and it attracts fans from toddlers to the elderly. Which other genre could do that? Not one that I'm aware of. Country music concerts have sold out crowds. Recently when their award shows are aired on national tv the special has the highest ratings of that evening. I could go on, but I think you get the point. I haven't always been a country music fan. Just in the past 15 years, since Tim McGraw hit the scene. I have since appreciated the genre and all that it has to offer.

   I will be honest in saying country is not the top genre on my iPod but I could answer it from the perspective of a similar genre R&B.
   Since radio formats have changed and more stations are playing multi-genre formats to get more listeners- i.e. artists are radio friendly by mixing a little of everything in. Therefore more artists are collaborating to hit the popular genres and the most attention. Not that I know but my guess that the most popular genres are hip-hop and pop. Country mixes nice enough with pop and therefore it's easy to sell that way. The same goes with R&B and both genres. Therefore purists are forced to find niche outlets to listen and until the genre is taken over.
   It's a theory but I understand how some country listeners feel- R&B and country are the same in that they are story genres- the artists paint pictures with it character and details. And in this day in age- we've become to ADD to enjoy a nice musical picture.
