Music is my life. I'm addicted to it and I believe that the type of music a person listens to, truly defines that person. So people, tell me you favorite music genre!
And dont forget to write you favourite song and singer!
punk or alternative rock, and pure rock, 60s- today. Give me some nirvana, beatles, RHCP, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, The Who, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys and i should be good for a few years
I dont have a favourite genre. Right this secodn Im listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI8xDHyH-jc
Whir, by Smashing Pumpkins
Music is like food. You cannot limit yourself to one variety ! However I was always a punk rock , alt rock guy. Siouxsie and the Banshees has always ranked among my favorites. I wrote a hub about her. Here is one of my faves.

Hmmmmm. If my music defines who I am, than that is pretty scary!
I love hard rock/metal the best. Classic rock as well. Favorites in this genre: Metallica, Pantera, Velvet Revolver.
Also a big fan of R&B (most forms). Favorites in this genre: Prince (#1), Erika Badu, Jodeci.
Other favorite artists: Sinead O'Connor, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Ottis Reading, and Nat King Cole.
What I choose to listen to depends entire upon my mood. Going by my favorites, I must be a bit 'off' in the head, huh? LOL.
I listen to all genres: classical, jazz, rock, soul, etc. I couldn't really name a favorite musician or song...my list of "favorites" would be quite long. I probably connect to rock and jazz the most as a musician myself. Recently I've been getting into retropop for some strange reason. :-)
Deep lyrical hip hop, soul rnb, a little bit of pop(from acclaimed legends ONLY), and some soft rock: these does it for me.
Fav artists: eminem, jayz, cramberries
Right now, am vibing to Recovery.
For me music is an art form which medium is sound.
So I like all styles of music, as long as it is art, and you know that can be very individual ;-)
I'm more into jazz, funk, heavier stuff, industrial, no wave, new wave, big band, ...
GOOD music.
Genre? Does it matter? I like music, I like to make my own, or listen to anything at all that I enjoy. Good music is what sounds good to me, regardless of genre.
Early music (before 1750).
It's tough to pick a favourite but I would have to go with Guillaume Dufay.
Speed metal; Fear factory, Slayer (back in the day), Sepeltura, or GWAR (hilarious!)
Genre? Whatever's playing.
As long as it isn't off the Lawrence Welk show, polkas, or bad Rap, hip-hop, or metal-too-heavy-to-lift.
I love lots of different music but classical music, Purcell, Haydn, Handel and Mozart is my favourite. However, if I am really stressed I love Meat Loaf and Bat out of Hell an if I'm feeling melancholic I love Judy Garland and Billy Holiday
Something hard, like Nine Inch Nails or early Korn. Absolutely love grunge, nothing like some Nirvana or Alice in Chains. Punk is always good too with the likes of Misfits or The Exploited.
Pop music can die though.
I grew up on country western and Caruso opera. I migrated to classics, grew up on 50's/60's/70's rock 'n roll, and wrote some stage musicals, orchestrations, and a bunch of country, pop, and church music.
Lately I listen a lot to club music, Top 40 and jazz. I hope to start another composing project again, but am going slowly to try to decide what makes me feel some passion.
I can't listen to any genre of music for hours at a time. I channel surf the radio rather than listen to CDs. My ipod is set to random because I need to mix it up all the time.
was born in the 70s love the 70s song Carpenter, Streisand, Abba
As a former music ed. student I have an appreciation for all music. However if I had to pick one I would have to say Jazz. The main reason is because pretty much all current popular music was birthed from jazz. Jazz may be an American art form, but it transcends age, race, and nationality. It has no boundaries.
Music is a huge part of my life too. I'm into everything: classical, jazz, blues, folk, pop, alt rock, classic rock...the list goes on and on. I try to write music in all those genres as well, mostly in jazz and pop/rock these days. I love so many artists that it's unfair to name just one and too exhausting to list them all!
I may not fit in here coz I am from India but I love melodies and Lata Mangeshkar is my favorite singer and at the age of almost 80 she still hasn't lost her melodious voice.A living legend-as we call her.
I like way to many to just limit myself to one genre. But of course rock and roll is at the top. That genre seems like it has died now. But I like R&B and Jazz too.
"You can't kill Rock and Roll"- Ozzy Osbourne
"Rock and Roll will never die" - ummm... I forgot.
I AM A ROCKER!! Although, I will bend my ear to: Salsa, Timba, Reggae, Jazz, Opera, music...music...music.....
I love all types of music and even some rap (mostly EMINEM). My favorite type of music is POP. Hard to pick the most favorite song of mine, but right now I am hooked on Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert Just can't get enough of either of their music.

Hi,
I like a variety of music. Country and rock were always my favorite. Sometimes I listen to Mozart or Beethoven. I also like instrumental, elevator music. Reba, and Kenny Rogers are two I listen too. Alan Jackson is one I listen too. I really do not listen all the time. I love religious music as well.
I started out in life loving just instumental stuff, folk , some country, now I find Gordon Lightfoot my fav. , started listening in the early sixties to a lot of pop, today I find that music is watered down in quality and content. I'll stick to good instamentalists and 'balladeers'of geat folk, if you have never listened to Lightfoots words and music , you have missed out on quality stuff......try him.
I like R&B and Soul music. I like music that gives me something that I can feel.
I love just about every type of music imaginable. It doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to a specific genre. I do generally love: Roots Reggae, Improve music, Hip-Hop (not the shit on mainstream radio), good DJS... As long as it moves me, I love it! Here some bands/artists I have recently been into.
Sound Tribe Sector 9- space funk dance music w/ lots of improve
The Roots- The only BAND I know of that plays genuine Hip-Hop
Lykke Li- Sweedish pop crooner
Ott- Dub inspired DJ from UK. Amazing
James Zabiela- Trance DJ from UK
Thanks for the topic and happy listening!!!
Many! I flip between Country, Easy Listening, R&B, Rock, Classical and World. I like to get a variety as it gives you a total experience. I love switching between vocal and instrumental as well for the same reasons! The only genre I'm not thrilled with is opera or sacred music per se...although there are many artists that actually make it tolerable such as Bocelli!
A little bit of everything... or most everything. Favorite Band is Dave Matthews.
Hard Rock of all types.. hair metal, scandinavian garage, 60s blues rock, desert rock, new wave of british heavy metal, early punk
it's all good
My favorite type of music is classical, although I like many other types too, especially early music and world music. My favorite composer is Prokofiev.

The guitar was in all forms of popular music for nearly five decades. Ever since its amplification in the 30s, guitar has been heard in Jazz, Rock + Roll, and early R+B (it was already the focus of Blues and Country musics). But something happened in the 80s that started in the late 70s. Guitar was...

Do you like your music loud or soft? How do you prefer playing music - loud or soft? I have noticed that mostly youngsters like it loud. As people age, they prefer softer music. Is that so?
