Would you still support, and deny any wrongdoing if your child were convicted of murder?

All too often when someone is convicted of murder you hear their parents speaking out. "Oh my Johnny (fictional name) could never have done that" Do you think these parents are simply dillusional, or do you think you would react the same way?

There is no way I would support my child or deny his or hers wrong doing if convicted of murder. On the other note ...I think my heart would be so broken and it would be hard to have a relationship for a very long while. I do not think you just stop loving them but your perception  of them is so tainted that it causes many conflicting feelings.

if the murder wasn't justified. i would still be there for them but i wouldn't act like they were innocent of any wrong doings. a lot would depend on why my kid did it but if it was for the wrong reasons i wouldn't want or expect any special treatment for them.

well, depends on the circumstances, if perhaps my child wa sthe person that killed Hitler, then maybe i would be proud of them smile but if it was completely uncalled for, then i would not support them, but hopefully, if i raise my children correctly, they won't murder any one with out just cause

That is a tough question.  If my child was convicted of murder, I would be devastated. I would still love my child, but hate their actions.

Wow, that makes my heart ache just thinking about it. I think I am probably biased because my mom was murdered, but my opinion is that I could not support my child if they truly took someone's life for no reason or for a stupid reason. If it was self defense I would stand by his/her side. I hope I am raising my children with good morals and values and that they would never be able to commit such a crime, or any crime for that matter.

I like all of you answers and I agree that I wouldn't stop loving my child. But I don't think I could ever look at them the same way.
I would just like to add that Jeffery Dahmer's mother professed his innocence until the day she died.

I think denial of your child committing murder is a coping mechanism. Realistically, I don't know how my brain would be able to logically handle that information and stay sane. It would be very difficult to accept something like that and I think there are some people who simply cannot. I'm okay with that. We all have to figure out how to make it through every day even in the face of tragedy.

I don't have children and don't want any but if I did and this occurred, they would be cut off from all contact with me like a leg with gangrene. The parents that support and deny wrongdoing by their children are factors in the problem, not a solution.
