Because he hasn't done ANYTHING!
Oh wait... he hasn't done anything?
Kind of like the George Bush approach to Katrina. Wait around, cover your eyes and hope it goes away.
I'm excited for the complete government takeover of Health Care... if they are so good at managing Disasters imagine how good they will be at managing our medical system. You have cancer... no problem we'll get back to you!
Why would someone blame Obama?
That is just being stupid. I haven't heard anyone blaming Obama for BP f'up. Not even from conservatives. So maybe you need to change the circles you run in, and start hanging out with people with common sense. Just a suggestion.
So RKH - tell us how you reeeeely feel!
LOL - Actually I loved your comment. You have to excuse Mike. He's cool but he's a libertarian and doesn't get out in the real world much.
People will place blame on whoever or whomever they damn well choose. You making a thread about telling them what they cannot or can do, is not going to do any good or be of any help.
Seems to me they were doing what so many conservatives wanted them to do, let a company do what they need to without government interference. This is what you get when regulations are relaxed.
Seems to me they are doing all they can, what else do you suggest they do?
How about instead of trying to maintain a source of oil under the ocean we simply use some explosives to seal the rupture.
BP is not trying to stop the spill they are trying to control it so they can continue to earn revenue from it.
Sounds good to me...but still not the government's fault other than allowing offshore drilling...
I do not believe the government is responsible for the accident. It is now responsible to take whatever measures are necessary to protect our coastline however.
It's not that regulations are relaxed. It is the idiots doing the job who are either failing to do it properly or are paid to look away. Either way, whoever is regulating the companies are at fault.
If it is a government agency, then it is not a surprise. But, if the employee did their job and something else went wrong, then BP is to blame and not the regulators on the job.
Having a problem at 5000 ft deep water, every option that could lead to disaster should have been already known. Knowing this, BP is at fault yet again.
The fact that it is so deep of water is posing the huge obstacle for stopping it or even controlling it. Had it actually been closer to the U.S. or land, then maybe it could have been fixed quicker, but the same damage would have still occurred on the coastline regardless.
So, who is the idiot that put in out in 5000 ft deep water? Not that it matters. I made my point.
**UW, I used your post to get my point across to others and not only you, so please take no offense to it.
I just don't see any urgency from BP! They knew from the get go their options for solving the crisis, when one fails the next showed be on the ready to implement. Our government should see to it and if BP isn't up to the task recruit other oil companies or government agencies to assist (with BP picking up the tab)! To the extent that Bp is allowed to drag their feet, yes Barrack Obama is responsible!
Suppose you are a promising engineer - you played your cards right in school and you can command several hundred thousand dollars per year working for the oil giants or $60-70,000 working for the EPA or the Army Corps of Engineers.
Where do you think specialists are? The best brains in the big leagues - the oil companies are working on this. ALL the oil giants have a vested interest in getting this shut off - because future drilling in the Gulf for ALL of them hangs in the balance.
The oil companies had themselves and the government fooled that there is/was a fail-safe device for turning off the well. The blowout preventer. Turns out it can fail and everyone has egg on their face - and a gigantic oil slick in the Gulf.
The issue is not who to blame for this - that can come after the damn thing is shut off. Then the issue bigger than blame is what steps should we take to prevent future accidents. I don't think oversight on the platform was the problem - though it may turn out it was lax. The cause seems to be the design of the blowout preventer - the absolute expectation it would work - and the lack of any plan after it failed.
Fixing this is exceptionally difficult and the fault lies in the lack of prevention not the almost impossible cure. That will be the history not the present. BP will definately be doing all it can to bolt this stable door but it will be a combination of a good idea and a lot of luck that gets it done.
I just know that I will never buy anything connected to BP ever again. It may take some digging to find everything, but they don't deserve anyone's business.
Good idea - the only problem with it - that will leave you with all those things made with bloody Iraqi oil I guess.

How do we make sure this doesn't happen again you ask? Deregulate further and open more of the gulf to drilling. That could only makes sense to those in the oil companies back pockets.

Given the relentless tireless and ludicrously one sided attacks on Barack Obama from the right wing media and how he's responsible for everything that's wrong with the US (including plane crashes, typhoons, broken washing machines, stale bread and cold coffee)and especially the economy....A thought...
