Are Republicans/conservatives in majority here in these forums?

Or does it just seem that way because the Democrats/liberals are less vocal about it?  Lately it seems to me there are many many more conservatives and their agendas being pushed at us.  I usually keep away from politics entirely, but if it is true that most of the forum posters are conservative I will just write hubs and stay away - otherwise, bad feelings every day.  Not worth it.  Some of the statements made about Obama and Democrats are meant to start useless and meaningless discussions about who is "better".  sickening.

What makes you think everyone has to be American?

You're absolutely right - I don't think of "conservative" and "liberal" as being necessarily just American -  these are mindsets that step across international boundaries.  I equated Republican with conservative and Democrat with liberal because that is how so many forum posts are worded - like the recent one about "Dumbocrats" - We talk a lot about what goes on in the U.S. but I don't think for one minute that these things we do, say, and think only affect Americans.

Inasmuch as part of being a liberal is not reading anything or knowing even the basic principals of arguing or debating; it would not surprise me to learn these forums are comprised mostly of conservatives.

I'm not interested in either side of the argument, because both are meaningless. Neither accepts responsibility while placing blame on others.

Political leaders are no different than that of the Pope, who usurp their position through lies and deceptive practices.

Political correct speech, brought forth, from politics, has weakened the already weak minded and made people fearful, because political speech, like politicians, switch words to mean something it doesn't(lying) so as to hopeful lessen the impact of what is said to have been done.

There seems to be no ethics or integrity in Congress of Washington. It's pathetic.

yeah, i agree with you about that.  that's one of the reasons why I stopped voting and watching presidential debates.  As they're all basically the same.  Both politicians rarely ever go into too much detail as in HOW they're going to help fix the countries problems, yet they'll go into incredible amount of detail to try to slander their opponents.  It's rather sad.  In a way, I wish the usa had the same political system as britain sometimes, as they seem to have a more well established government.  where each politician has to work his/her way up to the top of the order.  where as here, you have people with hardly no political experience run for office like Arnold Schwarzenneger or Ronald Reagan.  Nothing against Reagan, as he did do some good things for this country.  I can't say the same for Arnold, but you get my drift.

Hey UW, I mean no disrespect, but you are a Canadian resident.

Why in the world would you enter a forum talking about American politics? And, then to proceed to voice your opinions about it?

Do you really think what you say has any value? Especially, when it comes to politics of America.

Yes, you have a right to voice your opinion, but do realize you are wasting your efforts, because you are not actually a resident.

Are you a U.S. citizen? If not, then why get involved? It makes no sense. hmm

Again, no disrespect meant. No offense. I'm just curious.

Well, Cagsil, the world is an international place - what is happening in one place affects us all.  Since Americans are so vocal about their American Way - I don't wonder that people in Ireland, Canada, Phillipines, Russia and anywhere else would have opinions about what Americans are doing and how they think.  The idea that the U.S. is an island of and to itself is so 19th century.

Liberals "less vocal"???   "Most forum posters conservative"??   Now that's funny.
'Cause it's certainly not the conservative view that's been upheld as the majority here,  at least not since I've been on this site.
Truly conservative views have had to be fought for tooth and nail because of the onslaught of liberal views and attacks.
Conservatives have had to push back at those onslaughts or else shut up because they're scared of being harrassed or threatened and banned.

Seems to me you've only started whining now that a few conservatives are standing their ground firmly.

Didn't you find it sickening as well when Christians and Bush and Palin and any other conservative were/are being bad-mouthed and mocked?     Guess not.

  5. mega1 profile image80
    mega1posted 13 years ago

I feel pretty much the same way Cagsil does.  I can't get interested in fighting for either side of these political issues.

Why would anyone feel they have to fight "tooth and nail" for their viewpoint - about anything?  Someone else has another opinion, so what?  You won't probably convince them to think the way you do, any more than they'll convince you to change your mind!  It is all so meaningless.  That's why I'm leaving these forums for a little peace and mind.  Have fun- if that's what you do for fun - fight tooth and nail - by the time I get back I expect you'll all be toothless and nail-less - but, oh well, you will have upheld your fabulous viewpoints!

This sums it up pretty well, as what Cagsil said originally, too.
It's not so much about the politics in the end...lots of mindless, irresolvable bickering.

At the moment, I would guess a majority are conservative, but that the liberals are more vocal and vehement.  Only a guess, and it could very easily change next week.

Liberals feel they are being attacked; in the US at least they are in power and OF COURSE they are attacked.  At the same time conservatives are frothing at the mouth as they see some of THEIR scared cows being changed by force of law.

I don't pay any attention to most of the rabidly vocal posters, but at the same time one of the most interesting discussions I've ever had was with a young college man from California a couple of years ago.  I tend to be rather conservative while he was probably the most liberal person I've ever spoken with.  We had absolutely nothing in common, yet I found the way he thought to be fascinating.  Of course we never raised our voice, never called names, etc. which is necessary to enjoy the discussion.

The idea of being Republican or Democrat, or being Conservative or Liberal is lost on me.  I'm all over the board, actually.  Why?  Because I think for myself - I don't sit around and agree with everything the Democrats OR the Republicans have to say, I don't argue with everything the Liberals OR the Conservatives throw at me either.

As I coount the 'Most Frequent On This Forum' I count 4 conservative - 4 liberal and 2 who come down on either side, depending on the issue.

So Conservatives are not in the majority.

Sorry--but there is something very different when democrats are in charge than republicans..there just is!
What I felt when Bush 1 left and Clinton took over was like a steel grip had left my neck! And I'm not kidding.

And I can't even tell you how it felt under Bushco... the sequel......brrrrrr, like a nightmare.
Same with Reagan....steel grip of moral condemnation and judgement...no caring for the poor sick or disabled...only care for $$$.

White supremacy--Christian supremacy--Male supremacy--Hetero Supremacy--Wealth Supremacy. That's the sign of Republican to me....
So when people say they are just the same, I say:  Paul Wellstone. Dennis Kucinich. Cynthia McKinney. Ted Kennedy. Barack Obama.
People who believe gvt is a force for good....for the downtrodden....for the misplaced and forgotten too. NOT just the well-heeled and priveledged!

In my experience these forums were dominated by liberals ever since. This was painfully obvious during Obama election craze. Probably lately people started to get back to their senses, hence the impression of increasing number of conservatives vs progressives, caused by noticeably decreasing number of active liberal participants. Still I don't see a domination on conservative part, yet. smile

Yeah, but greed is a bigger power, and it has to be held in check!
We see what happens when business and money get the run of things.....tragedy for 95%...great life for 5%.

    That is unbalanced.
At least with gvt, there are checks and balances. Not always apparent and not always applied, but they are there.
Business just wants one thing: Profit. At whatever cost. And we can get people out of gvt....we have 0 say in business. Like look at what happened!
Jobs cut, but money for ceo's tripled!
They make 500 times their employees.....Out of balance. Big time.

Get business out of gvt that's what I say!! smile

as much as I like and prefer being centered...my idea of being centered is not strictly political, so I can't label myself as strictly one way or another...

when I post, it is usually in response to what is coming down the hardest from whatever I am involved in at the time...when I post on hub pages, it is usually in response to left name calling and slander, so i post more right things...

I feel being centered is more often a "right" feeling than a "left" feeling...but that is not always the case when it comes to government and politics
