I posted a hub which I introduced by saying I had wrote this for a site a few years ago. It was a humours piece I wanted to share here on my Hub. I own it and it is my original work. It was called, The Great Turkey day Escape.
What is the standard? You get a penalty against your hubscore for posting previously posted work? The message I got on my hub just confused me, as it says do not contact us telling us this is your original work? It was tagged as Duplicate.
I went ahead and deleted it as i do not want my HUb to have a negative light on it, however i feel like I am being penalized for sharing an original piece here on my hub. This was written several years ago, not recently, so i am just kinda lost on this topic.
Help, can someone explain this to me, please?
All you would have to do it post pictures and a link for a hub linking it outside and include a description as welll...I have seen this and have used this method. So has a follower of mine...Possum Lover...check out his hub by visiting mine and clicking on his fan mail you will see what I mean. Peace.
Duplicate content is exactly that, "duplicate" content. HP wants ORIGINAL work to be up on its pages.
What sometimes confuses folks when they are figuring out the HP ropes is how YOUR OWN original work is counted as "not original."
That's the rub. While your "The Great Turkey Day Escape" is your original creation, it is not being originally published on the Internet here at HP if you have published it somewhere else already. The point being, HP requires what goes up on its pages to be "original" as in first and only instance of the article being put online.
The FAQ is there to handle these questions day and night,
http://hubpages.com/faq/#duplicate_content
The duplicate tag is only something you can see and it only effects your hub score. Other than that, it's not a problem.
However, the reason for the duplicate tag is because it's already on the Internet or still remains online.
So, it is not considered original content. Hence, the duplicate tag.
OK. I understand better now. Thank you all.
Shadesbreath, You hit the nail on the head. The rub was what was bothering me.
Thank you again. I now know...
Knowledge is power!
No problem! For what it's worth, you can re-publish your HP stuff elsewhere and, while you get the notice that it's been copied, they don't ding you for "getting ripped off." So, it's okay to syndicate yourself from HP outward, just not the otherway around. Which I won't comment on. LOL.
It's all right to vent. But in the end, when we "break" HP rules, then we get "punished". And yes, knowledge is power.
I got a couple of duplicate content warnings when I first started here. I solved the problem by deleting the original. I was completely fed up with the other site and didn't want to have anything to do with them anyway.
Waited a couple of days, and then the content was original.
I am so much more happy here. This site provides a wonderful easy interface but also these forums and lots of help.
I have learned way more here than anywhere else.
I find myself branching out all the time. This is the place.

I notice several disgruntled Hubbers on Eric's new Hub, saying they're leaving HubPages because of the duplicate content flags. They seem to be misunderstanding what the dup content flag is all about - either they think they're being penalized, or that the flag means they have to delete the Hub.I...

I was just checking my stats when I noticed that a hub I published on 1-7-07 has been flagged and incurring a HP penalty for duplicate content. It's my highest earning hub and HP giving me a penalty-and then asking me to wait 72 hours for a review on something I published a year ago is...

Can someone tell me how to post song lyrics without it being a duplicate violation?

I would like to make a suggestion to the TEAM here on HUB Pages. I feel that it would be a positive improvement here on the HUB, if all of the activity that is perpetuated by Hubbers, were made known. For instance... apparently - anyone can go around giving thumbs UP or DOWN to a fellow...

I was reading a Hub on Hubpages, and was concerned to read the advice that the content we use in our Hubs should be unique, not something we've posted elsewhere on the net.I started out on Helium and have nearly 200 articles on that site. When I joined HubPages, I saw it as a great opportunity to...

I have just posted two new Hubs, and one of them has received my first ever "duplicate content" message. The message says that a large part of the content of the Hub is on other sites. This is correct. The Hub contains a well known inspirational poem that I have always found helpful, but...
