I was wondering how often a hub should be social bookmarked and  if my internet history is deleted i do not know which hubs I bookmarked. I don't want to be considered a spammer. How many hubs do you guys bookmark at a given time and do you usually bookmark the low traffic or high or?

It's preferable to get your hubs bookmarked by someone else - this should be your aim for all content but it isn't always possible I know.

If submitting your own content, be sure to submit other peoples too at a ratio of maybe 5:1 (that's 5 from other people and 1 of your own) - this way the bookmarking sites will not see your account as self serving and will allow you to keep submitting links.

You can use specific software for this purpose and it will do this for you or you can outsource - either option has a cost involved though but will help you to get where you want to go.

With Stumble I would suggest a ratio of at least 10 to 1.

Neil- how do you get other people to bookmark your hubs?

          Brian,

There are syndication groups who will do this, similar to reciprical linking but for bookmarking and also services that will do this for you for a price. Other than that, you can try to establish your own network and randomly submit each others bookmarks - time consuming and it takes some planning so as not to leave a footprint but this is a good system to have in place (it's not easy though - having tried to get this off the ground once or twice, human nature kicks in and the difficulty of trying to get people to work together for free tends to make this an uphill battle) I know a few team projects have worked well on HP though, so perhaps you'd have better luck here than I had elsewhere...

              Brian,

I'll message you a couple of links to look through with more info if that's okay - don't want to be promoting anything in here.

You should be careful about bookmarking your own content on sites like Digg and StumbleUpon.  Self-promotion is looked down upon on these sites, and can cause your account to be frozen or banned.  It can also create problems for other users when they try to bookmark, so for the sake of everyone, do it sparingly, and mix in bookmarks from other domains as well.

I been using twitter, facebook, and myspace. I don't know if twitter is doing me any good cause i have no idea how to get followers its a lot different than myspace and facebook when it comes to finding people(harder).

You might try following @hubpages on twitter and posting your twitter account name in this thread-- I'll follow you:-)  I am @pinkpackrat on twitter and always happy to make new friends.  Twitter is a little different from FB and myspace and it takes a little getting used to-- but I really like it.

I find twitter moderately useful as a traffic generator and very useful as a source of friendship and blogfodder.

On the otherhand if you don't bookmark your own sites with social tools, it is much less likely that other visitors will bother to fill out the descriptions, tags etc for you!

Has anyone seen any proof that social bookmarking has any effect?
I'm skeptical if search engines give much weight to it...

And how many hubs have you visited because you saw them on a social bookmarking site?
Don't mean to be negative... just wondering... smile

Social book marketing is about traffic, not SEO.  A single stumble has sometimes brought me over 10,000 visitors.

Do a forum search and read what people like Sunforged have to say about that.

If your site gets large numbers of visitors who don't click on ads, that can count AGAINST you with your advertisers.  Adsense and eBay don't have a fixed payout - if they think you're attracting the wrong kind of traffic, they can reduce the pennies they give you per click for all your visitors.  So you end up worse off.

That's why many of the experienced Hubbers on here don't like Stumbleupon, because it can send huge numbers to your site, but they almost never click on any ads.

a good point, Marissa-- How about Amazon? Does it penalize heavy non clicking traffic too?

          1. Marisa Wright profile image85
Marisa Wrightposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Amazon only pays you if somebody buys, so they wouldn't care.

The difference with Adsense and eBay is that they pay on clicks.  They pay you on the basis that you should be sending targeted traffic which is likely to buy something once they've clicked. So if they start seeing a lot of traffic that isn't clicking on ads, they conclude you're attracting tyre-kickers who are less likely to buy - hence why they reduce the pennies.

very good input. The problem I have is traffic itself. It seems I get paid quite a lot for one click.  Almost a dollar for some clicks. It seems adsense likes me when it comes to that, but it does not matter if I get a lot for a click when i do not have tons of traffic yet.

Like I seen one click 42 cents. If i could get 10 cllicks a day then your talking at least 3-10$ a day. I am on a plan of making a LOT of hubs i, just afraid I might get super low traffic.

I social bookmark a bit. A few links, but a lot of sites don't let you submit, others are not relevant for my hubs as they are "news", and some have errors.

Though as people say below, it depends a bit on the "quality" of the visitors... but I am impressed by that number. smile

      Great question.

I don't do social bookmarking at all.  My traffic is growing steadily and my earnings are at record highs.

social bookmarking depends on where you do it like anything else. many of the most popular social bookmarking sites dont like you posting your own content as said above. also their links are no follow so they don't help rankings. however you can get indexed fast by using them.

now, there are social bookmarking sites that are less comunity based, don't mind auto submissions, still get a lot of traffic and are do follow sites. If you want to leverage the true power of social bookmarking, you need to use a combination of the two.

With the social bookmarking communities, like Digg and Stumbleupon, it is best to link to your site, or hubs in your profile, and spend your time bookmarking other people's stuff, making friends, and commenting on other people's content.

I only post 1/10 of my own content to these sites. I spend at least an hour every week on these sites commenting on other posts and boosting others that i find there, and making friends requests.

when you do that, you will start getting traffic to your profile, and to your site. then your new friends that you have made will start bookmarking your content for you.

The best thing to do is take the time write so well that people have to share it. Make something funny or controversial. hit the emotional hot buttons, and people will let everyone else know about it for you.

social book marking is good unless they suspect you as spammers..if they do so..u will be spammed back..

with a simple bookmark and share button to your explorer/firefox by onlywire.com you can book mark and share all your hubs..and as far as concerned to me..i bookmark and share every time i publish a new hub

I never social bookmark my hubs. Traffic from digg etc. etc. doesn't pay so why bother going after it?

Sure you might get a link from these sites but if you build top notch hubs then people link to them naturally.

  9. Daisydot profile image62

It depends very much on whether the bookmarks are dofollow or nofollow. Digg and stumble are no follow, so useless for backlinking (and as has been pointed out, the social traffic doesn't buy anything).

There are some bookmarking sites that are do-follow, and I guess they pass a very little link juice. You need to find them yourself, build up a list of sites that will work for you. But bear in mind that the juice they pass isn't as good as that from a link in an article or a link embedded in the text of a blogpost.

I use all the share buttons offered by HP and have started randomly tweeting hubs that I am going over (I go back and try to improve on hubs from time to time)
I have also considered resubmitting some links that may become appropriate again at certain times of the year such as my Christmas Gifts for Gardeners Hub. I figure there are new people that have not seen the link from last year and might read.
I am still learning about backlinking but seem to be doing pretty well just doing this so far.
