Got my first Amazon sale

   I'm hardly a newbie to making money online, already working full time at home for the past three years.
   
   But for some reason I've never had any luck with Amazon sales. I see I finally got my first sale the other day.
   
   Like most of my other sales I think it came from one of my own sites, a Harry Potter store inside my tourist site.
   
   Does it take hundreds of clicks to make a sale with Amazon? Since my store is about toys I hope the next few months will be good because of Christmas.
   
   I'll have to make a lot more stores now inside my sites, they seem to rank well doing it the way I've been doing. Anyway it feels good to finally get an Amazon sale!

   Congrats, still waiting for my first. I'm sure it takes hundreds since I have visited thousands of sites and never bought anything. I am sure a lot of people are like me.

      Yeah I made my first purchase from Amazon only a month ago and have no desire to buy anything else from them.
      
      Most items they have you can find up the street if you live in a big city, so I don't see the point. Most items I buy online are items you can't find close to home.

         Ah, but you are forgetting there are thousands of people like me who detest shopping. Loathe it in fact. I would much rather surf the net and have it delivered to my door. Keep at it, you never know, I might be looking for something you are showing on one of your hubs.

            Yes that is true. Many love buying online, and buying from a trusted merchant like Amazon is a big plus.
            
            I actually have my own leather jacket website where I sell jackets. But sales are not great because many want to try on a jacket before buying.

   My conversion rate last month was 2.74%, so for me it is a sale every 37 clicks. But then I guess it is a numbers game, that was across 5140 clicks.

      Ahhh, that's a lot more clicks than my 284 total! I guess I just need to get a lot more content out there and many more products from Amazon. Thanks.

   Isn't it exciting! If you are anything like me you regularly check that montly total in Amazon and go, oh gosh, another month and guess what, no sales. My first sale, actually there were two in the same month, were for MP3 downloads that only made a couple of dollars but I was absolutely thrilled. Congratulations Bill, may there be many more.

   Are you writing Hubs about the kind of things that people buy off Amazon in the States?  It is amazing the kinds of things that people do buy, so maybe it's worth having a think about what products you display in your capsules.

   From what I've read, a 5% to 10% conversion rate with Amazon is good. My results have been in line with that. A bad month for me is a 6.5% conversion rate, and I've had many months with conversion rates of 12% or higher.
   
   Regardless of how your page is ranking, if you're not seeing at least 5% conversion on your Amazon pages, I think it's time to tweak the layout, copy or products.
   
   And CONGRATS on your first Amazon sale!

      That sounds about right to me. Last month I was 12.61 % with and August was 7.77. My goal is to hit 10% each month.

   Thanks again everyone. I think I don't have enough Amazon products out there yet to really see how my % is doing.
   
   That always seems to be my problem, never enough time to get content out there. I spend too much time just maintaining my 15 or so websites. Time to cut out the non-productive ones I guess.

   Great going, Bill!  Amazon sales seem to go slow at first but will pick up gradually, at least in my experience.  I'm lucky enough to sell an occasional $500+ item among the smaller ones, so this helps too!  It's a learning process to sell on hubs versus getting ad clicks.  But some hubs get both!

    Congratulations on your first Amazon sale. I haven't sold much via Amazon at hubpages, but I find with my own personal website the conversion rates to be around 2%. Not great, but it still makes me happy whenever I see a sale.

    Whoo Hoo Congrats Bill I just checked my Amazon and found I too got my first sale 2 days ago!!! The conversion is only 4% but I started to think maybe something might be wrong. It is good to get at least one. Patience is the key.
    
    Now for some reason it does say that I have to refer at least 6 more items which I continue to do in my hubs but it doesn't change. Does this mean 6 more sales before my conversion rate goes Up?

    I had no luck with the amazon on my website, so removed it.
    
    I had no luck with the amazon on hubs, so removed most of them.
    
    Then, only about 6 weeks ago, I found out that the hubpages amazon affiliate programme is a different one to the UK one I was in.  So my amazon ID number had been wrong for 3 years. 
    
    So I signed up with the (different) US Amazon programme and put the ID in my affiliate settings ... and made my first sale in September.
    
    Overall, few clicks, conversion rate from clicks wasn't too bad.  Made a whopping $1.20
