There really should be one for >>Environmental Issues
Hi Real Tomato,
Environmental Issues is found in:
Politics & Issues/Environment.
-Larry
It might be hidden under some topics.
I was hoping for a Nature category-- which could include protecting nature, nature photography, and more--- again, these might line up differently under other headings.
I think there is an environment category, not necessarily an environment issues category. I know i did find an ozone depletion category for mine ozone hub. Well, I didn't find it, the category was suggested, which was great.
I have some that just seem to defy categorization. I'm not a fan of categories for that reason. When I put my fireplace maintenance hub into the home improvement category this morning, the earnings potential dropped from 4 $$$$ to 3. I don't understand why that would happen.
Hi Shirley,
We haven't made categories visible yet to the search engines. We are planning to do this in the next few weeks.
The drop in traffic is not related to the categories.
If you would like to list the hubs that you had trouble categorizing, I will be glad to help. When we roll out the categories, our intention, is that it will increase web traffic by providing additional links to your hubs.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of putting things in categories ("inside the box") because few of my hubs fit very well. Once a hub is categorized it excludes, by definition, any other category. When I'm looking for something it's not to buy or sell, or for research, it's for reading and pleasure. I'd be better served by these categories:
1. Interesting
2. Exciting
3. Sexy
4. Helpful
5. Inspirational
6. You get the idea!
That's my concern as well, William. If our hubs fit across different categories (or in one that doesn't exist), then they could be missed by people entirely if they don't look in the right place.
Hi William, Shirley,
I agree with you that categories are far from perfect. Tags can go a long way to remedy this issue.
Even with their limitations, categories will add additional links to your hubs and they will help people find your hub who are interested in the category. Categories have the possibility of being more specific and more reliable than tags.

My page views have gone up since the categories have been implemented, so if anything else this is a good thing .
The thing I found useful with the category implementation is see just how "focused" my hubs are on a niche.
You hear that a lot in SEO, laser tight focus on one thing.
Of course not everyone thinks that way, not even SEO experts.

I like hopping hubs, learning new things and meeting other hubbers. However, I have absolutely no interest in reading hubs on religion, politics, poems, fictional stories or some far away place I will never visit so I skip them. Usually this is no big deal but I just hopped about 30 hubs and no...
