From where i sit and what i have seen through the years across the spectrum of conservative/republican peoples and their principles, Limbaugh is definitely not the leader of the party. No more than Jesse Jackson might be of the democrats, or any other more on the fringe type group of a larger group, that says and does things seemingly to incite problems.

Its the  people that get stuck on a particular person and their "unpleasantness" and try to claim that they "run" things, or those people that think so and so is great and can do anything...those are the people  that have the problem, not the person that they are stuck on. big_smile

We can agree on that! There doesn't appear to be a clear leader of the GOP at the moment. New Gingrich was on the cover of the NYTimes Magazine this week and the subject of a long article based on interviews with him and othes some of whom are speculating that he may make a run for the Presidency, depending on how circumstances develop. He did not remove himself from this possibility according to the article. He compared himself to George Washington which I thought was a bit of a stretch!

Here's a link to the NYT article on Gingrich

My partner is hoping the Democrats become the new right and the Republican party just dies, allowing a more left-leaning second party to emerge. Maybe the Greens.

Right now it looks to me like the Republican Party either has to find a way to make its tent bigger and propose some real ideas (Lower taxes! Ideas other than that one...), or else become the wacko far right party, the party of fundies and fascists.

People seem to forget that in the begininning of the Afghan war the world was behind Bush. He mis judged his support and invaded Iraq.

I was never against Bush (although I can't stand the man! ) but I saw the invasion of a sovereign nation with an elected president as wrong.

Now Rush the drug using, hard of hearing, fat, over exposed windbag leader of the Republicans says he want Obama to fail like we wanted bush to fail and its also wrong.

Rush hoping Obama will fail is like a passenger on a flight hoping that the pilot can't land the plane.

    PeaceOUt!

There is no leader of the party right now.  It is completely divided, and I know this because I'm a part of it.  These crazy fundamentalists have hijacked the party and did so in the 1990's when there was a power vacuum after George Bush Senior.

I don't know who the leader of the republican party is, and I honestly don't want to know these days.  I'm just a tenth amendment guy who wants to see the neo-cons banned from the party.

Limbaugh is indeed the de facto leader of the Republican party, and that is just as the Democrats, and particularly Rahm Emmanuel (who is a brilliant old style politician) would like.

The Dems are even running ads trying to connect the Republican party to the party of Limbaugh.  And you can bet they are laughing through all of this, because with Republican leadership like that, who needs 'losers?'  With Limbaugh at the helm philosophically, ship's going down the drain--maximum speed--forever.

I hope the republicans just become some crazy cult no one listens to, and I think with Rush around it looks more like it everyday.
