Has anyone written for eHow, and if so, how was your experience with them?

I am thinking about writing for eHow because they seem to be prestigious and unaffected by Google Alg. I will still likely write on here, and am looking at other websites as supplements too.(ones that pay upfront, and revenue sharing sites)

It looks like infobarrel has quite a high ranking according to one website I was looking at. Not sure if the ranking was true or not though.I Wrote a few articles for them, but its been a while recently.

EDIT - Actually, I don't think infobarrel has that high of a rank in comparison to the top ALEXA

Looks are deceiving, and so is eHow.

Demand Media (formerly Demand Studios) owns eHow, Livestrong, Trails.com, Answerbag, and some others. DM sites were affected by Google's changes, but it seems eHow itself not so much (to the shock of just about anyone who complained about quality and content farms).

eHow just deleted rev share articles (again) and replaced them w/upfront pay articles (again). Said it was about improving the "eHow user experience" though it was only days after the algorithm change...
      They're a shady bunch.

eHow.com isn't prestigious at all.  In fact, Consumer Reports lists them as one of the top 10 sites on the internet to avoid for certain info.

You'd have to apply through the DM website w/a resume.  There are plenty of other sites out there that are flat fee pay.

      re - InfoBarrel.
They're great.  Awesome, transparent site that works hard on improving things.  PR 4.

If you want to make money w/rev share sites you can.  IB has the highest rev share (75%-90%).

      Food for thought:
eHow has a higher PR than any of the other rev share sites.  This is a big reason you see them @ the top of Google.  It's not because all of their writers know what they're doing.  eHow gave people a false sense of know-how, so some still claim they're the best.  No, they've just got the highest page rank.  For now.

Learn the necessary skills and you can overtake their articles.

Yep.  I was one who thought I knew something because 'why else would I rank so high...' but when I didn't earn much at some new sites for about a year because I had no real clue, well, it's me, not the sites.
I can admit I really didn't know anything to begin with...

I agree about being able to overtake their articles. I have a few in my sights right now that have top listings but mediocre content.

Thanks for the input. smile I was not going to solely write on eHow alone. I am trying to find sites that I will be writing for for a long time.

I always hear mixed opinions about different article directories. For instance, some people love infobarrel, and others don't. I can not say much about infobarrel because I have not written enough on their site yet.

The thing is, I am looking to write on multiple sites, so even if a site may have many mixed opinions, as long as their good(maybe not the best) I would like to give them a try.

I have written for them in the past... It's been over two years ago. You can no longer just decide to join and write like you could back then. You now have to apply to become a Demand Studios writer and if accepted, you choose from their titles and categories. Some are revenue sharing and some are straight pay. I have made quite a bit of money in the past with Demand Studios by writing articles for straight pay, but I have a few revenue share articles that haven't really generated much over the long haul.

I don't write there too much anymore because the titles available are usually pretty lousy and the editors who approve your work are all different and have their own little quirks about what they accept and don't accept. It really gets time consuming and eats into profit margin. I am now starting to concentrate on promoting my own sites and see how that goes.

I write for Demand Media that owns eHow, several other sites and also provides content for sites like LiveStrong and USA Today Travel as well as Tyra Banks' and Rachel Ray's sites.

You have to be very, very disciplined to write for them. They have Guidelines (both Editorial and by template) up the wazoo, as well as a blacklist of sites you can't use that could be a book on its own. Every word is read and vetted by an experienced editor, and you only have one shot to make things right. It's not for the weak at heart, that's for sure. A lot of the folks that get accepted there write 3, 4 or 5 articles and then head for the hills.

That said, it's steady work and you are paid twice per week directly into your PayPal account. You can work as much or as little as you want -- there is never a shortage of work. I use it to fill in around other clients, as do a lot of the other writers.

I tried to apply once, and got rejected.  When you say you cannot use sites, what do you mean exactly, and is there a way to get excepted?

For every article we write, we have to have references backing up our info. We cannot use any sites for information that are on the blacklist, which is a mile long.

Are there ways to get accepted? There are ways to tilt the odds in your favor, but nothing surefire. I've helped a few people apply there. About half made it in eventually and about half didn't. Message me if you want more info.

I also have wrote for Demand in the past. I always wrote for upfront, if I wanted "revshare" I would just write variations on the topic from whatever research I had to do for the initial article! In fact, I always do.

I have heard that the submission process could be difficult, lots of complaints, but I never had to rewrite anything. I have maybe 30-50? articles spread about their sites, some of it gets resold and syndicated, I have come across my own content (bought by DS) uncredited many times.

Getting used to the templates was a bit of a pain and if I was to go back I would have to spend an hour or so relearning their requirements. But the actual content ..pfffft you can write it in under 20 minutes if you know the topic.

My articles at infobarrel don't make me any money. I was also looking to write for eHow, but they don't share impressions like hubpages.

David, you get paid either by upfront pay or you can write for rev share, also. All my rev share articles, both from the old eHow WCP and through Demand Studios make pretty good money. But as others have said, it's not always easy writing for DS.
