Ok I am going to cheat as I have two one a footballer and one an actor and both made me go jeeez what talent and both made me cry by their death. George Best the Belfast Boy like myself, jeeez we here in N Ireland loved George, through the Troubles he was our hero, he was like the Simple Minds song The Belfast Child. I read his book and read how he felt walking up the tunnel of Old Trafford and the buzz he felt. I can only imagine the buzz George Best got as that genius took that skinny body past the hardest defender. I was at his funeral and as his coffin passed me part of my life died,  I loved George Best and I loved the years he was at his prime.

James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause was me growing up, I saw that movie at 17 and it changed my life. God James Dean only made 3 movies befored he died in a car crash. His movie East of Eden is my all time fav movie, thats what I call acting.

Two men born with pure Genius, sad thing is both George Best and James Dean had so much more to give. In life the sad thing is most that have that piece of Genius also have flaws hence the saying flawed genius. If I had a chance I would love to be George Best or James Dean just for one day. R.I.P to both for making my teen years happy just wanting to be them.

Great choice for you in George Best ! I'm a died in the wool United fan. First went Old Trafford in 1966 and was at Wembley in May '68 for the first European Cup Final ... I was in love with George so I wouldn't want to be him, but good choice. He died on my 48th birthday.

I'm going to choose 2 as well - one past and one present.

from the past - Lady Jane Digby, an amazing Victorian traveller - flaunted society, had many affairs and ended up married to a bedouin sheik - hopeless as a mother tough !

In the present - Viggo Mortensen's best girly. Now that would put a smile on my face.

People of the past:  I'd like to say Madame Curie, Anne Sullivan, or Abraham Lincoln (I suppose for their accomplishments and the fact that they continue to be generally (generally) well thought of - but I wouldn't really want the lives of any of them.)

In the present:  Probably Bill Gates, for the same reason a lot of people would (but while also considering the accomplishment involved in achieving that "same reason")

Really, though, for all the things I'd like different about myself and my own life; I would never really want to be anyone else (which may be weird, because if anyone knew my less-than-charmed life they'd never guess I'd have such trouble imagining someone else I'd like to be).  smile

I have a thing about Boudicca. Wouldn't mind kicking around in her shoes for a day.

I'd give Ghandi a shot too. Though I'd keep my mouth firmly clamped on account that we'd now have some really stupid quotes scribed into the anals of history big_smile

Otherwise, my bod and life's just fine.

Interesting replies there but what if like Lisa you like being yourself, lets put a spin on that and say if you could go back in time what year would you be yourself and why ?

I wouldn't go so far as to say I like being myself as much as it may seem - I just like it well enough not to want to be anyone else.  smile

I'd go back to 2008 if I had to go back in time at all. As with myself and my life, the present era leaves a lot of room for improvement, but I still think it's better than a lot of the imagined options.  (Cop-out answer, I answer, I know - but honest.)

I would like to be the alternative Hitler from a parallel universe.  Can you imagine being a dictator with the power of the German state at that time to help the world?

Yeah, I would be the greatest person in history.
