The Bible does say that God only allowed divorce because of the hardness of men's hearts,  but from the beginning it wasn't so,  he allowed the divorce degree but it is not his desire for us to divorce if that makes sense.  Your right  it talks about the widow and those who are not married remaining single,  whereas when your married your trying to please your spouse compared to a single person is totally devoted to God.  I do think God desires that we marry that's why he gave Adam a help mate Eve,  hope this helps!

Here are some Bible verses about marriage and divorce:

    Romans 7:2 – 3
“By law, a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress.  But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.”

    1 Corinthians 7:10 – 11
“To the married, I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.  But is she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.”

    Matthew 19:4 – 6
“Haven’t you read,” he (Jesus) replied, “that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one.  Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

(As part of the Ten Commandments)

    Deuteronomy 4:21
"You shall  not covet your neighbor's wife."

    Deuteronomy 4:18
    "You shall not commit adultery."

There are still other verses both from the new and old testament.  But I hope these five verses helps you.

    Have a great week!

What does the Bible say about divorce and remarriage? It says the only reason a couple should divorce is for marital infidelity. That aside, what other reason would you really need to divorce? Even if you are in an abusive relationship, your spouse can get counseling. Since sex is a spiritual act just as much as it is a physical one, it's looked at differently by God, I would presume.

I am not sure if it is wise to post on this HUB that "I dont care what the bible says" I am not mud slinging but I think people are way too quick to dismiss God and his teachings. It's especially noteworthy considering that we rely/depend on God for EVERYTHING, even when we aren't always aware of it. None of us can control our next breaths... just some food for thought.

As for remarriage? The bible did say a person whom was married previously should not marry again unless their partner is deceased. I know of many who don't hold to that teaching and I certainly am not judging anyone. I would assume that if someone did remarry, they should honor God, and that relationship, to the best of their ability. Do EVERYTHING in their power to make THAT relationship work - and move on - it's the best thing you can do.
