Stories versus informational/how-tos

    Are simple short stories, fiction or nonfiction, acceptable as hubs? Does a hub need to be informative or express an opinion about a subject? Or is it simply whatever draws the traffic?

    There is a category for hubs that are just creative writing, literary or poetry.

    However the general consensus is that creative writing is a very poor earner, and it's difficult to get more than internal traffic. It's hard to SEO a story, and for that reason, unless you have specific names like "Story about bread", it's hard to get traffic from search engines.

    Informational hubs are often good for traffic, if you choose a good niche, but often don't get a huge number of clicks.

    Review, sale and item based hubs generally have the best CTR for both Adsense and Amazon, if you do them right - because the people who visit are more likely in the market for more information or to buy, so more chance of getting a sale or click.

    Thanks QM, I wasn't even looking at it from that direction. I didn't realize there was a difference between the traffic that would just read your hub, and the traffic that would click on ads.

      Picture it - you the reader have found a story about my past experience in learning to fish.  It looks interesting and funny - you follow the link to read it.  You are in the mood for a good laugh.

      What kind of ad can google put on the hub to convince you to click it and perhaps buy something?  Ditto for poetry - you find a poem that deeply moves you.  What kind of ad would be for something you want to buy and will thus click the ad?

      Then throw in the idea that google robots don't understand the words at all (they aren't human and can't read).  How will they know what the hub is about?  How will they know it is a funny story based on true experience?  Or that it will take a person and twist their emotions into a pretzel?  They how will they know that's what the searcher is looking for?
