Having read a lot about near-death experiences, I have noticed that people who attempt suicide describe going to hell.  I was wondering if this might be as a result of the mental state they were in before they died, and therefore the brain creates hellish experiences. There are though some who believe committing suicide would be a reason for someone to be sent to hell, as it is a mortal sin.  What do others think is the reason for these hellish experiences?

"There are though some who believe committing suicide would be a reason for someone to be sent to hell, as it is a mortal sin."

      Hogwash.

The ancient/modern religious groups use of the hell concept as a form of control is easily proven thus:

      1) Suicide is a mortal sin. Doing something that you know will end your life is a sin punishable by eternal torture in hell.

      2) Charging a machine gun nest, knowing you will die in that action, an action which subsequently saves the rest of your companies lives, is a form of suicide that they praise as "No man has a greater love than he that would lay down his life (commit suicide) for his friends". The belief that killing an 'infidel' is a direct pass to heaven (suicide bombers).

They say 'it' is what ever it is that suits thier needs best at that moment. roll

***It could also be said that Jesus committed suicide. By not using the power God gave him to save himself (prevent his own death)from crucifixion. Choosing to allow oneself to die at someone elses hands (death by Cop) is a form of suicide.

I think you are dead on the money. A depressed person, especially if depressed because of remorse over something they felt they could not forgive themselves for; would certainly believe they had reason to envision a hellish eternity.

It is unfathomable for someone to think that a person, so tortured in life, would be tortured for ending it. I would think that of all the people who would need the loving embrace of a god; a suicide victim would be one of them.

I'm glad that God is the judge of our works... I wouldn't want to be in charge of trying to pretend I understood anyone else's situation.

Christ asked why we find tiny faults with our neighbors when we have large faults in ourselves, and said we'll be judged as we judge others.

I'm glad to see you guys thinking as I do, that it doesn't seem right.

Personally I am the judge of my works. Otherwise why am I?

I don't know what to believe about hell after death experiences or whether you go to hell for committing suicide, but I have read that when you commit suicide God sends you back down to earth to experience a similar life to the one you had before you committed suicide.
