Calling all agriculturally inclined hubbers, especially those with knowledge of fruit trees.
We have a lovely orange tree in our backyard.
For years we have been only picking the "low-hanging" fruit because we can't reach the top branches.
Hubby has asked me for the "picker thing" that extends your reach and snips the fruit from the branch.
I have no idea what the technical name of this "picker/snipper thing" could be.
I wouldn't so much mind walking into a store and asking for it using those exact words (I'm not proud), but I'm at a loss as to what store carries such a contraption.
I can think of several hubbers offhand who I KNOW can help me out here.
Many thanks for getting this fruit-picking-novice out of a jam (or I guess that would be a marmalade, wouldn't it? ).
Here's a picture of what I think it is he wants (?)
THANKS!
MM
You want one of these:

~$30, +s/h.
That's it! A FRUIT PICKER!
Only problem is here in the Central Valley of CA when you ask for a fruit picker they think you mean a seasonal worker .
Home Despot is just down the street.
Boycotting Lowe's for pulling their advertising of American Muslim.
Not that they'll miss me as I don't even know where the closest store is
Thanks, guys.
For the record, neither of you gentlemen was on my probables list to come up with solution. Especially not you, my Chicopee pal!
You're welcome Mighty Mom. I certainly hope you're able to get one for him.

Heh, you didn't reckon with my wife. We're very much do-it-yourself type folks. I'm more of a cooking, sewing, make stuff kind of guy (just bottled a batch of beer) and she's more of the growing, farming, nature type gal.
If we had fruit trees worth a darn, we'd have one of those picker devices. Alas, our apple tree was rotting and had to be removed, and our pear tree looks like it's going the same way. On the upside, though, after we felled the apple tree, the following spring a bunch of morels sprouted, so I call that a win.
Er, I think I'd call that an orchard!
I would have had no idea you were such a handy guy, Jeff.
You've always struck me as the strong cerebral type
Cags, thanks, friend.
I'm sure I'll be able to find one. He also wants a fishing license and I know exactly where to go for that.
Oops. I mean, tell Santa where to source it from...
I'm so jealous, we had to cut down all the trees in the orchard because of the bees. We found our dog (minpin named Doofy) to be allergic to bees and we caught her running around the yard with some type of bee/wasp/hornet/yellow_jacket nest. :S
Our other dog, a German shepherd named Trooper, would get on her hind legs and reach up to snag a pear. She also used to get into our raspberries as well which were HUGE bringers of bees. The poor bĂȘte would get herself stung all the time, but fortunately she wasn't allergic. Our grapes didn't seem to attract them, but we took down the vines after pulling the berries anyway.
Perhaps years from now we'll regrow the orchard.
Thanks for the wonderful visuals, Melbel.
Bummer about your allergic dog.
I've known allergic humans but never animals.
Better safe than sorry when it comes to our furry children!

Hi all,A little help, if any of you know the answer. I am writing on a Google Chromebook right now. I have attempted to compose a hub and can't seem to add capsules beyond what is already there. Usually if I hover between two capsules an option comes up to add one. That is...

I just noticed a "glitch" today after creating my latest hub when writing in a title. The title is the first thing I write when I open the hub tool. As I'm writing the hub, making many additions and changes to my original, I look at the title to see if it still fits. In most of my hubs, I...
